Welcome to Turn 2 of The Impaller versus The World, a game that everyone gets to participate in! For more information about the game, view this blog post.

The winning item from last time was number 4. Deploy 5 to Colombia and 3 to Murmansk. Transfer 1 from Siple to Argentina. Attack with 4 from Murmansk to Arkangelsk and 3 to Moscow. Attack Panama with 6.

Here's what we did:

Here's the outcome:

  • The World: Deploy 5 to Colombia

  • The World: Deploy 3 to Murmansk

  • The World: 1 army transferred to Argentina from Siple

  • The World: 4 armies captured Arkhangelsk from Murmansk. 1 attacking armies killed, 2 defending armies killed.

  • The World: 3 armies captured Moscow from Murmansk. 1 attacking armies killed, 2 defending armies killed.

  • The Impaller: 2 armies captured Panama from Mexico. 1 attacking armies killed, 1 defending armies killed.

  • The World: 6 armies captured Panama from Colombia. 0 attacking armies killed, 1 defending armies killed.

  • The World has one blockade card, 2/19 of a second blockade card, 2/6 of an order priority card, 2/5 of an order delay card, and 2/4 of a reinforcement card.

Here are our options:

  1. Goal: Take the West Russia bonus, begin to take additional territories in South America to secure that bonus perhaps next turn and reinforce Panama in case Impaller has a bonus such as India and thus 8 income and tries to take back Panama.
-Place 2 in Murmansk, 3 in Moscow, 2 in Argentina and 1 in Panama. Attack Bolivia with 3 from Argentina. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 4 from Moscow.

  2. Goal: Take the West Russia bonus, begin to take additional territories in South America to secure that bonus perhaps next turn and try to take Mexico from The Impaller this turn.
-Place 2 in Murmansk, 3 in Moscow, 2 in Argentina and 1 in Panama. Attack Bolivia with 3 from Argentina. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 4 from Moscow. Attack Mexico with 6.

  3. Goal: Take the West Russia bonus and begin forming a 'ball' of armies that will head directly to India since there is a good chance that Impaller is there.
-Place 2 in Murmansk and 6 in Moscow. Transfer 1 from Argentina to Colombia. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 7 from Moscow.

4.
Goal: Take the West Russia bonus and begin forming a 'ball' of armies that will head directly to India while trying to take Mexico from The Impaller.
-Place 2 in Murmansk and 6 in Moscow. Transfer 1 from Argentina to Colombia. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 7 from Moscow. Attack Panama with 6 from Colombia.

5.
Goal: Take the West Russia bonus, reinforce Panama and attack Brazil to work on the South America bonus as well to get a peek into Africa.
-Place 2 in Murmansk, 3 in Moscow, 2 in Argentina and 1 in Panama. Attack Brazil with 3 from Argentina. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 4 from Moscow.

6.
Goal: Take the West Russia bonus and break into Mexico to potentially take the bonus next turn.
-Place 2 in Murmansk, 3 in Moscow and 3 in Panama. Transfer 1 from Argentina to Colombia. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 4 from Moscow. Attack Mexico with 8 from Panama.

7.
Goal: Take the West Russia bonus and ensure we take Brazil to continue taking the South America bonus and to border West Africa in case Impaller is there.
-Place 2 in Murmansk, 3 in Moscow and 3 in Argentina. Attack Vorkuta with 4 from Arkangelsk. Attack Ufa with 4 from Moscow. Attack Brazil with 4 from Argentina.

I vote for #1 and #5. I think I prefer #5, it's not a bad idea to see what's going on in Africa.

Reinforcing Mexico a bit is good, but moving there is bad. We've broken Imp's bonus, we have to make sure nothing bad happens, and we have to grind the win. Attacking India can wait a turn, too - what if it turns out he's in Africa?

not sure if we should move to mexico or not but we definately need to take west russia and theres no chance we're gonna get south america since he would just bust through anyway from mexico.

You're doing a great job T -- would you please add the turn 0 map to each subsequent turn as well. I can't remember where wastelands are and have to keep going back to find the old post.

So all 7 have us taking WR this turn. I favor trying to take CA now with as much as possible. Once we have CA we get SA as a bonus. I think Imp would consider that game over.

We have a huge lead right now. Chasing after Imp in India is a waste of armies that could be used now to lock up the two bonuses right next to us that we know have no wastelands (CA and SA).

Expanding in SA can wait. We can take it in one turn with 12 income whenever we want to. Going for Brazil or Bolivia before securing CA, invites Imp to focus on a bust into Bolivia.

Next turn we'll have 12 income to Imp's either 8 or 9. So long as we're forcing Imp to put his income into defending against us, we're increasing our advanatge over him.

I like #6!

On the other hand, I think it's highly likely that Imp will blockade in CA this turn. Since he started in Mex and attacked Panama with 2 last turn, I think we can safely assume he was consolidating armies and has ones in both other spots in CA. So he has to spend armies to do a blockade. If it's on the east side (I forget the country) then we can grab SA safely next turn. If it's west side (and that's where I'd blockade), then we try to eliminate Imp from CA 1st movnext turn and then pick up SA the following turn when we have the card.

Right now the choice winning doesn't even have us attackign Mex. Why wouldn't we have clearing out CA as our top priority now? If we can get CA, then we automatically get SA. Why would we go exploring instead of hitting the target right in front of us that gives us the biggest advantage?

I could see one of the options where we hit Mex with 6 being popular (although I greatly prefer hitting it with 8), I'm really surprised the current concensus is not to attack it at all.

OK -- I guess #5 is focused on discovering whether imp is in WA. I get that objective. But wouldn't it be preferrable to do that next turn?

I feel like Imp has just exchanged busts with us right now because we feel we can't take SA. I want to press him in CA to open up SA. If that wasn't the case, I'd completely agree with heading for Brazil.

I almost added in the distribution map this time, but will definitely do it for subsequent turns.

whatre the names of the places in west russia im not sure which is deploying where. i think we should attack both places in west russia with 3 and hit mexico with the rest as our first move (hes not going to attack us and only thing he might do is move troops over from cuba)

BTW -- we have been getting very lucky so far -- After getting Antartica in 1 turn, we attacked Panama after Imp (he lost 2) and we lost zero armies taking Panama (30% odds), we took Arkangelsk with 3 (80% odds), but only lost 1 (60% odds) and we took Murmansk with 4 and only lost 1 (60% odds). Every remainder roll went our way that turn and we got the timing right.

Better to be lucky than good.

I think that turn went extremely well, I like No.5. If we can find another starting territory for him we probably have it as this may come by turn 4 but if Impaller has India already that isn't good. So far I would say we are Favorites to win as we have already prevented him from taking a Bonus, also have we looked at the fact he may have picked one of our other bonuses (Antarctica, Russia) in his top 3 and knows we are there?

Don't think attacking CA is good idea. Impaller won't let as take bonus so loosing armies for that seems to be vain. I would rather gain Russia and SA bonuses.
Forming expedition to India is not-so-bad idea but first need gain income, checking Africa is good idea as well (it's also closer then India).

i like 6, if we hit CA we can catch him potentially going for another bonus and be in a better possition. Right now going for SA makes no sense, he is more likely to bust into SA to keep us from getting our bonus than he is to defend mexico this early. mind you I have been wrong many many times.

not attacking in CA would be a mistake, I agree with Duke as well.
I asume he wont even do anything in CA this turn and try to expand somewhere else and consider defending next turn, when there are two regions left.
As Duke said, it will force some of his ressource to be deployed in CA

Imp might defend Mexico and try to do a late counter-attack. I'm counting on him not having enough income to get his attack to go after ours or beat an 8.

Even if he succeeds in holding Mex, we can hit him with 12 next turn, when he's earning max 9.

Getting into a battle of attrition in CA would be good for us given the higher incoem, I hope Imp indulges us rather than blockading.
