Why Christians should support gay marriage: 2/2/2016 08:30:57

I'm a social leftist and libertarian so of course I am a strong supporter of gay rights but i wasn't always this way. I have grown up in a home very diverse politically. We all started out far right extreme, yet I have evolved into a libertarian, my sister is a left leaning independent, and my brother is a ' I don't give a flying crap ' kinda guy who's registered independent yet we still haven't figured out what he is XD. My entire family are evangelical Christians and my uncle is Buddhist who is socialist. So, how did I become a supporter of gay marriage?

When you think of Christian supporter of gay marriage ( such as me ) most other Christians see a traitor, Believers of many other religions think I should be stoned, and most atheists either laugh there asses off or are confused. I support gay Marriage based upon my simple idea that governs my entire social beliefs, why should someone else follow my beliefs? Because that's exactly what Christian anti gay marriage supporters are doing. There is absolutely no reason why gays should not marry. Does it threaten national security? No, does it threaten me personally? No, does actually affect my life in any way? Unless my roommate is a gay adult film actor then no again.

Why Christians are against it is because they believe it's a sin. Ok, I'm gonna level this out for Christians. According to holly scripture, Lust, unrightous vengeance, lying, are all Sins. It's also true that God sees all Sins equally. So, you can't say we should outlaw gay marriage and then say " well, of course we can't outlaw lying ! " so now your a hypocrite lol. God never advocated for outlawing things he thought were sinful. In fact he went up against the high priests and challenged traditional Jewish morals such as an eye for an eye. What did Jesus do? He didt try to outlaw things he considered sinful, he went into communities, helping others and spreading the gospel through peace. He didn't scream bloody murder or hold protests, he just made a difference

As Christians, that is our job. We are to be the light to the world and show the grace and mercy of our lord, not act like a bunch of rabid dogs who scream hateful things to people who disagree with us and send death threats to gay couples. You wanna know how to get people to see things your way? You go into the community and make a difference. Do what Jesus did. How do you think Christianity spread quicker then any other religion? Because we didn't force others to see things our way, we tried to persuade them and if we failed after many trys then we prayed.

Also, from my point of view, since all Sins are equally wrong then why should i treat this one different? I treat a gay man normally, he sins like me, he ain't perfect and he isn't any better then I am. I will not control someone elses life just because I disagree with it, as long as this doesn't physically affect me or other people in a bad way, i really don't see what the issue is. The same however goes to liberals, do not legislative my moral values. If a private school wants prayer to be tought in there school then what's unconstitutional? Nothing. My only problem with gays is the fact they talk out of two sides of there mouth. They claim to be as normal as anyone else and they want to be treated normally. Then the next day, they hold a massive gay pride parades bashing anyone who disagrees with them ( I actually saw one of these things, it honestly looked like just a bunch of high half naked white men over the age of 30 running down the street ) how is that normal?

Yeah yeah I get that they have a pride parade because of there sexuality and lifestyle but I have never seen any heterosexual males Set up a pride parade?. Well then you might say " well this is different, they are oppressed and want to show the world they are proud to be themselves " yeah i can see that, but it still doesn't answer my question. If they want to be considered normal don't set up massive parades and flaunt yourself to everyone. To be normal just fill in the ranks, dont obsess on your sexuality, and just act normal.

They should support it because it doesn't harm them and helps others, what the generosity of Christianity is all about.

My view: Gays should stop believing in a religion that hates them and just start believing what is around them instead of what's in a crappy man made book. Believe there's a Deity, fine, but don't start complaining because you joined a religion of hate (Like all religions minus 1 or 2)

Meanwhile I'll be preaching the Lord of the Rings as holy scripture.

The gay pride bit: I fucking hate them. Once apon a time, like feminism it was understandable but now when you have another rally every week it just creates hate. Who DOESNT know that gays exist? Even little Timmy in Ethiopia does so no one can throw that "Awareness" crap around.

Just start living life for being human, not for some label.

Me personally, I just think, "Good for you, you're on the path toward freethought." I see no reason to laugh, except perhaps in cheer or relief.

Just a wee bit of 'devil's advocacy':
God never advocated for outlawing things he thought were sinful.

Well .... Unless you consider like, a big chunk of the Old Testament. Ya know, with all them commandments and punishments for breaking them and stuff, including like, death er whatever. ;-)

He didn't scream bloody murder or hold protests

Well, there was that one time with like, the moneychangers er whatever. Oh, and supposedly he said he came not to bring peace but like, a sword or something. ;-)

How do you think Christianity spread quicker then any other religion? Because we didn't force others to see things our way, we tried to persuade them and if we failed after many trys then we prayed.

Might want to check your history on that one. There was that little matter of that Constantine fella making it the only legal religion in the Roman Empire er whatever, for example. ;-)

I have never seen any heterosexual males Set up a pride parade?

Homecoming parades? They have Kings and Queens instead of just Queens. lol Not strictly about sexuality (but then neither are gay pride parades), but the assumption is always heterosexual, never anything else, and it's certainly a 'pride' parade of sorts.

If they want to be considered normal don't set up massive parades and flaunt yourself to everyone. To be normal just fill in the ranks, dont obsess on your sexuality, and just act normal.

Define normal / acting normal.

They only have to 'flaunt' normality because they have been assumed to be 'abnormal' by the majority of people for so long.

*Not* having massively visible public parades got them nowhere for millenia. Having massive public exposure *does* help define what is considered 'normal' by many people.

Extremely arrogant. Being a Christian or an atheist doesn't mean you should support gay marriage or not. Religion serves a different purpose. I think being a libertarian should be illegal. They are the scum of the Earth. I am a Christian and I know many Christians AND Muslims who accept the idea of gay marriage or least tolerate it.

Tolerating something and supporting something are two different things. The idea of the man-woman marriage is what comes into dispute in most cases since you can't make someone choose who they want to love. Besides most churches are accepting of the gay community, including the pope. It works out better for the government anyway if gay marriage is legal. It doesn't hurt anyone and it provides better tax benefits for people.

As for the pride thing. I don't believe you can be proud of something you didn't choose. People who are proud of their country are stupid, you were born there by chance and the same can be said of sexuality. Having pride in your gender or sexuality is pointless. I'm not advocating that you can't be happy of your sexual orientation or country but pride is something different.

Again Libertarianism is basically "fuck the poor, trickle down economics works despite all evidence showing otherwise". They are a greater threat to Christianity than gay marriage.

The second most spoken topic in the bible by Jesus is money, the first being love. Jesus advocated for the poor and spoke out strongly against the rich exploiting the poor, the very basis of libertarianism. You CAN'T be a Christian and a libertarian.

No-one "should" support gay marriage, it's a matter of personal choice. If someone holds deeply ingrained beliefs against it I'm not going to tell them they have to abandon that because "Mainstream politics said so".

What bothers me more than anything is how LGBTs have become a super-protected class in society; and there's certain groups of people who are trying to enforce "acceptable" views regarding issues related to them. Anytime someone expresses disapproval of gay marriage, even if its in the most polite, rational way possible, there's a massive outcry and the public mob moves in to ruin their life and get them expelled from everything. It's really sick. For a movement that touts freedom many of the mainstream gay rights advocates have shown a lack of caring in regards for the freedoms of others. Examples? Aforementioned people getting fired just for having the "wrong" political view, attempts at forcing businesses to catering to gay weddings, and now even pastors can come under scrutiny for speaking out against gay marriage in their own churches.

Amen Eklipse. Well spoken. There's a line between civil liberties and religious liberty and the latter is being degraded for a small % of society.
