I live in texas, so I sort of have to pay attention to this stuff if I don't want to get shot, so if I get into a discussion with someone outside Austin, I can fake myself into being a semi-conservative(I've done this about 2 times)

Stop being a little bitch.

4) He's been endorsed by Jimmy McMillan and Vladimir Putin.

He is also endorsed by Tila Tequila (A girl who thinks the earth is flat, she is a goddess who has ascended farther then Jesus to where she is a all seeing goddess), and Gary Busey.

@Japan The Republican party did not make Donald Trump. To say Donald Trump is the stereotypical Republican is the same as saying Hilary Clinton is the most trustworthy person on the planet.

Also why do two liberals who aren't going to vote in Republican primaries care about this post? Go back to reading The Nation or watching MSNBC.

I don't read The Nation or watch MSNBC, although now I'm curious as to why you're making that assumption. Maybe you only pay attention to sources that agree with you and think everyone else does the same? Hope not.

It's a big world out there, Sandeep. Turns out not everyone who disagrees with you is irrational or ignorant. Crazy, huh?

On that note, though, I think Trump is trashed too much. He's a populist candidate- in some ways a modern William Jennings Bryan (with some semi-unworkable policies that some economically/politically disenfranchised groups really love)- but I think we're going to see his influence on American politics in the next few elections and eventually watch them define a new mainstream in the Republican party.

I'd personally be totally fine with a Trump presidency; if we survived Bush, we'll easily survive Trump when it comes to foreign policy. Economically, well, he likely has the connections to pull in good advisors. He definitely appeals to a lot of people- especially in the working class- and, like people say, it's nice to hear someone speak up about what a lot of people think everyone's been feeling all along.

More importantly for a non-Trump supporter:

Iowa: TRUMP HATES CORN!
New Hampshire: I have no idea.
South Carolina: HE'S A YANK
Nevada: HE HATES CASINOS!

You accused Trump of lying about the following things:

Saying that Muslims in New Jersey cheered 9/11

This isn't completely untrue. Most Muslims in the West are ignorant of their own religion due to the encouragement of secularism, and saw their identities as Muslims as political so they were indifferent to 9/11.

that vaccines cause autism

There is medical evidence to prove this claim. Don't believe everything the media tell you.

that President Obama wasn’t born in the United States

He had valid reason to believe this. Barrack Obama grew up in Indonesia, and there is nothing American about him apart from his accent.

and that global warming is a hoax perpetrated by China to close U.S. factories

Well, I haven't heard a better explanation for the recent global freeze.

Despite this, I sincerely hope Trump fails for America's sake... we need you to be the world police, albeit in your own territory. Stop encroaching on Russia's influence, it's impolite!

Also, name for me a politician that doesn't regularly lie... exactly. At least Trump is straightforward.

They've found out what causes autism, a viral infection during pregnancy.

So maybe the Autism-Vaccine theory will die.

You're not really suggesting that Putin endorsing a candidate is a good thing right?

"He had valid reason to believe this. Barrack Obama grew up in Indonesia, and there is nothing American about him apart from his accent."

This is nonsense. He was born in 1961, in the US. In 1967 he moved to Indonesia. In 1971 he moved back to the US to attend school.

Living in Indonesia from the age of 6 till 10 does not constitute "growing up in Indonesia" nor does it constitute "being unAmerican"

What your argument does constitute though is being an uninformed idiot.

This doesn't make much sense. The Nation is a progressive magazine...they endorsed Sanders. MSNBC is a liberal-biased network. Both of those sources do not agree with me on literally any topic of politics except maybe foreign policy. The only reason I use them is well, because different viewpoints is health for democracy and for an individual. You're rational enough to agree with this right?

There's a reason I was in New Hampshire this summer for 2 months...and it wasn't to volunteer for Trump.

What the fudge???

You actually went to New Hampshire to campaign against Trump? For two months???

For Rand Paul, against Trump...same thing. Anyway its good to exercise one's civic responsibility. Besides, I've always wanted to volunteer for a presidential campaign. Its really fun!

I think I was unclear- I was wondering why you assumed I would only read The Nation and watch MSNBC. Clearly, if you read sources that disagree with you- it's not like there's a sudden IQ cliff when someone becomes a liberal that keeps them from functioning as a human being.

Also, I can't believe you wasted 2 months of your life. But I guess the toxic pharma internship scene is different from the tech one.

You misunderstood. I didn't think you only read The Nation and watch MSNBC. It was a just a joke. The equivalent would be if someone told me to go back to reading the Wall Street Journal and watching Fox News. Both of which I rarely do.

But I guess the toxic pharma internship scene is different from the tech one.

Getting a biotech or pharmaceutical internship without at least a bachelor's degree (which I have not attained yet) is almost impossible. The demand far exceeds the supply...besides its not like I'll have time again in 4 years to volunteer for a presidential election, so it seemed like a good opportunity.

@GeneralPE: The opportunity cost of this is playing around with React.js. Not on the same level as what you could do instead with 2 months of your life (at the very least, a vacation- or research).

@Jai: Figures. Guess you've got Genentech to look forward to, though- or something of that ilk. I don't know where toxic pharma's end up, actually. I just figured you'd be doing research rather than supplying free labor to a millionaire.

I have no interest though in moving to silicon valley. Besides NJ is still a major biotechnology and pharmaceutical hub, so there's tons of opportunity here post-college, its just those opportunities are limited for undergrads. And yeah research is my preferred choice over industrial...but again the only actual college with high end scientific research in this state is Rutgers. Besides Genetech is mostly focused on cancer and Alzheimer's research, and my current topic of interest is the effectiveness and neurochemical effects of drugs used in the treatment of brain aneurysms.

Ah, that sound pretty cool! I figured there'd be more research going on in NJ, given Princeton and whatnot.

Hahaha yeah but I'm trying to be realistic...I think Princeton is a reach for me to be honest. There are tons of brighter talent in my field...I would be satisfied with research at Rutgers to be honest (they're underrated in my opinion).
