PS1: 102 million.
PS2: 155 million.
PS3: 80 million.
PS4: 39.5 million (as of 1.6.2016).

As you can see, people are buying less video game consoles, and less variety in games:

Best selling games:
PS1: GT1, 10.8 million
PS2: GTA: San Andreas, 17.33 million.
PS3: GTA5: 20 million.

Is this a bad thing?

actually i would say it has nothing to do with PC gaming, I think most people think that the PS4 is just the same console as the PS3 except the graphics are better, and they are fine with keeping their old systems with already a bunch of games on them.

Also now there isn't a lot of kids wanting an Xbox 360 to play COD on because they want Minecraft/CS:GO/Garry's mod instead.

Edit:And while the are on the PC, I meant that they didn't go there for graphics, they went there for games. Also Most PCs that have good graphics are MORE expensive then a Console (at about $400)

Yeah but you're getting your money's worth for a 400 dollar rig as opposed to a 400 dollar little computer. Consoles are basically computers with graphics from 2010. Anything a console can do, a real computer can do better.

But yeah let's face it, consoles are just slowly adding better graphis. There is no real point of getting a new console I'm u less you're that cool friend who'll get one just so you can hang out with that one friend who has no pc.

The logic that there's no reason to get a new console because all that is changing is the graphics is asinine. That logic would only make sense if every game being released on PS4 was also being released on the PS3 with lesser graphics. That's not the case, most games coming out today are only coming out on the current gen of consoles. People buy new consoles so they can continue to play newly released games.

It's also silly to imply that because GTA V outsold previous consoles best-selling games that that's somehow proof of a decrease in variety.

And, no, consoles are not "PC's with graphics from 2010".

In 2010 Mass Effect 2 was up there as one of the best looking games. Newly released console games absolutely look better than Mass Effect 2 did on PC.

You're taking the "2010" bit too literally. My point is that the graphics on consoles will not surpass graphics on a pc unless the pc you're using sucks balls. I have a shitty rig right now, and Skyrim looks a million miles better than the one on ps3. I know this for a fact because I have Skyrim for the ps3.

Its just how it is. PC master race is a thing for a reason.

yeah PC is an unbeatable beast.
It cost less in the long run and lives longer too.
Plus it has more games than console.

PS4 is outpacing PS3 comparing both consoles first 2 years on the market. same for Xbox One and Xbox 360. PS4 is even outpacing the PS2(the best selling console of all time) with those same statistics.

PS4 is sitting north of 30mil units sold, Xbox One is ~15Mil which looks comparatively bad, but is still outpacing the 360 as mentioned above.

console gaming is not dead, last gen lasted too long.

You can get an excellent gaming laptop for $1200- and a PC that will max everything.

You just need to do research ! ! !

That's probably why you ended up getting a sucky laptop; most people have no idea how to buy a gaming computer. Next time, do your homework.

I'm pretty sure it's because smart phones are so popular, and they are becoming more and more powerful. Plus, you can take them anywhere, and the games are easier to play for 15 minutes or so while you have a short break.

Go into a shop: look at laptops: buy one that looks cool. I play console only except when at school and then I really shouldn't be playing anything (silly me).
