I am particularly fond of this piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o71ZZG4E9xc
Alkan is so little known, even among classical music lovers. That's probably because the piano pieces he wrote are so hard they are rarely performed.

While we are on the subject of classical music. I adore Chopin. A particular favourite of mine is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk
Although it is very difficult to pick and choose from so many amazing pieces from various composers. One that I have really made a connection with is Vivaldi's Four Seasons (winter especially) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygpf6mxTUeY
I shall leave it at that for now.

A little feedback on your selection from my point of view, Pushover.

I don't understand the appeal of the second, third, seventh, ninth and twelfth links. First was of interest, fourth and fifth were good. The sixth was chilling, very nice. Eighth? Undeniably poor. I really liked the tenth link, wonderful take on a fly's journey. Eleventh was passable, as far as the type of music goes, a little uninteresting perhaps. Thirteenth (4'33") was really interesting. Love the idea, my wont is now to see first hand.

I have been looking for Penderecki: Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima forever. I forgot its name and it is a really hard piece of music to put into a search bar. I have to thank you so much for that link.

Haha. I was trying to be a bit challenging with my post. I'm also into many other styles of music... maybe I'll cobble together a different set of "friendly" youtube links if I decide to care enough. :3

L, interesting to hear which you like and which you don't. You seem to universally embrace experimental music played with instruments and reject experimental music played with (or augmented with) electronics. I would guess that you favor notes (and the progression thereof) over textures & the nature of the sounds themselves? With the exception of 4'33" perhaps... Very strange from my perspective, but of course taste in music is subjective and I've often disagreed with other people's tastes. I'll bet you and I listen to Free Jazz very differently!

Noct, very happy you happened to rediscover that excellent piece of music! Took me a while to re-find it myself, eventually a search of "Hiroshima orchestral piece" ended up doing the trick.

Have to completely disagree with your assessment of Kajiura though... all her music just sounds the same to me. In the genre of video game & anime composers, I'd definitely have to pick Yoko Kanno over Yuki Kajiura.

Also the .hack//SIGN soundtrack has THE MOST HILARIOUS engrish ever! How come I must know the direction of relieving~

Oh and thanks guys for introducing me to Charles-Valentin Alkan.

@Noct - I wasn't expecting .hack, very nice. The Impossible Duet is wonderful to of course.

@Pushover - Indeed. I am not a huge fan of, as you said, experimental electronic music. Although that may just be that I haven't heard the right sort. A few of the things you put up were just jarring and unpleasant to me. I try to be as open as possible with music, but some things are pushing the limits of my endurance. Yes. It is such that the small (or large) differences in thinking can affect how we perceive the things around us. I believe that people see colours differently and things like that. It is all the mental image our personas create.

@Pushover i guess since I come from a background in Celtic and German music so those elements of Yuki's that can make her songs sound generic sound quite distinct to me.
