Pangea Map- Help Developing.: 1/12/2016 01:38:24

So I have a map idea, but I need some help in developing. I have the skills, just not the time. Is there anyone who'd like to help me in this? We'd work separately, then share .svg files, etc.

So this map is going to be a bit of diplo, but also with natural barriers, such as mountains and lakes, etc.

These are the two pictures I'll be using for the map, if anyone's interested, contact me!
Map size will be TBD, if you want to work, we'll figure something out.

Neat, but how are you gonna name all the territories?

I mean the continent is 200 million years oldish...

Wouldn't new mountain ranges form where the continents merge?

If it were me, I'd do a territory for smaller countries, and for countries like the US, Canada, Aust., China etc do it by states/counties. (So the US gets divided in 49, Australia 7 etc)

To clarify:

I'm going to name the territories by their position in their MODERN DAY COUNTRIES. This is why I picked a map with all of the current names.

Cacao- You're partially right, but they aren't merging as of right now(the time period off which the map is based), they're DIVERGING. Still, I'll have to take into consideration the age when making natural landmarks.

THomas 633- Thanks so much for for the full map! I've been looking for that. As for the proper spelling, Pangaea, Panɡæa, or Pangea are all valid and used spellings of the word.

How about something like Rodinia?

Well I learned something, thanks. You'll want to subdivide the larger ones though, and remember that Hawaii didn't exist back then. Neither did most modern mountain ranges. And maybe some islands in the (I can't say it correctly) Ocean, so that it isn't a huge trek?

Fleecemaster- Great idea! That looks way more interesting, with islands and the such.

Thomas 633- I'm definitely going to subdivide them. The reason I'm asking for help is the scale of this map- I'd like to make this a big diplo map, maybe with scenarios. And honestly, the accuracy of it doesn't need to be quite that exact- considering that we have no exact images of Pangaea, only guesses, I can take some artistic liberties. But now, back to the original question- anyone willing to help?

This is the same pangaea pic from above, just smaller so we can see it :P

Thanks Zack, that's what I thought too, already looks like a Warlight map, may also be easier too, and as you say, very interesting! :) Might help with naming things too, as it's got continents that don't exist now and they are given names :)

How about for Pangaea, rather than focusing on modern-day continents, maybe go for more geological features, then players can sort of fight over what they consider their "country" rather than preconceived ideas, I can imagine players playing Russia and USA just like the modern equivilants. Just a thought, depends how you want to take it :)

Fleecemaster-I agree, it gives me more freedom in naming the places.

I honestly think I'll go with the Rodina- my whole goal was to make a realistic yet ancient diplo map. Rodina is much more interesting. I can also take the advantage and make up countries, but maybe name them for tribes/peoples who lived there(in the modern world). I'd make them fairly spaced, so one can have a fair diplo game without the supergiants(Russia, US) overruling all else

Yeh, personally I agree that would make a great map :)

It would be easy to make up some sort of anchient tribal civilisations that existed back then that no remains were left behind of, seeing as it was 1 billion years ago! :) Or even an advanced race of lifeforms, or aliens that have long since left or died out... Loads of possibilities!

Also I really love the name too, Rodinia! :)

But would you be willing to work on it?
This would be a long term project, so not a lot of work at a time
I'd hate to let this idea go to waste, and I've already made a plan for the map division... Anyone interested, message me or just post it here

I've never made a map, how easy is it?

I'm currently working on so many Warlight projects that I doubt I could add much to it.

We have other map makers in our clan though, if you want you can join and talk to them? Our clan seems to be becoming quite a "maker" clan at the moment! :)

Making a map is relatively easy, see
https://www.warlight.net/wiki/Map_Making

It's time consuming, but not that hard. And as for your clan, I'll check that out. Thanks!

ChrisCMU-

I looked up Pangaea before I started formulating my map idea- there are a few maps, about 3, but they aren't extensive. For example, yours has only ~100 territories. I plan for mine to have somewhere around 1000, making it a diplo map

I thought there might be a few Pangaeas, that's why I thought Rodinia might be interesting, I think either one would make a nice Diplo map though :)

Edit: Oh yeah, kept forgeting to mention, places like Antartica weren't snowy like it is now, it had forests for most of history. So it might be good to reflect that in the bonus values :)

Edit2: Looks like map making isn't too tricky, when I have some time I might have a go :)
