One reason I like playing this game is that there are players from all over the world. I often wonder what the perception of Americans overseas is.
I feel that my country is falling apart. I feel that we are creating more terrorists than we can ever "destroy" (to use the words of both Obama and the far right Republicans) due to killing civilians via drone strike. Nothing makes me more ashamed of my country than to know that the CIA is knowingly killing civilians via drone. And yet the rank and file citizens believe, or pretend to believe, that "they (radical jihadis) hate us because of our freedoms." Our citizenry is getting fatter and stupider. We pay banking CEOs and NBA and NFL stars 10s of millions of dollars per year while paying teachers almost nothing. We will destroy ourselves long before ISIS, ISIL or any terrorist-of-the-month club will. And yet, people do still want to come here. Immigration is high. So perhaps there is reason to hold out hope there is inherent goodness in this country.

Am I just bitter? Or is there any reason to hold onto a shred of hope for my country?

With love and respect

Merc.

Stop worrying about it so much. You must be reading the radical European posts on here.

ahahah "radical European posts on here", I am really wondering what do you mean Mr Clit.

Merc, it is not only the US but the entire world overally getting worse, you seem to worry about your country, but the situation is not better elsewhere. NBA players are paid millions of Dollars while in Europe Football players are likewise paid millions of Euros. Education is not a priority whereas entertainment, military or the whole banking/finance system get much of the money. My father is himself a teacher, France is amongst the worst developped country in terms of salary (professors and teachers), and we wonder why young people are turning terrorists (most of the people who perpetrated the terrorist attacks in Paris last months were French not foreigners), the reason is clear and simple enough: the developped and western countries (not all of them fortunately) focus on wrong topics/priorities, blame the politicians for that.

It's important to know that people are extremely varied. I've met many Americans online and offline and only a small percentage were boorish and intolerant. Others had varying degrees of prejudice.
Once, I was in a bookstore browsing through some books and a female American expat came up to look at the books and said "hi" to me. I was really taken aback and looked at her coldly. At that time I was still somewhat prejudiced against Americans so she probably sensed the hostility in my eyes, and yet, she greeted me politely. I still feel ashamed of my discourtesy to this day and of the negative impression she must have gotten.
In general, I find Americans generous, passionate about what they believe in and blunt.

Nowadays people are bored of their "elites", especially politicians. Yesterday an important elections occured in France a majority of people did not vote because they are just bored of corrupted politicians who do not give a fuck of the people but prefer to focus on their ego and career. That's why a far right party known as the Front National won the elections yesterday. Our situation in France is way worse than in the US, so you see do not worry that much Mercenary, there is worse elsewhere.

Take a look on that:

LOL. You're mad because the voter turnout in France was only 51%. Try US state elections in NJ where the voter turnout was 5%. YES YOU SAW THAT RIGHT. 5% FOR STATE AND LOCAL ELECTIONS. The citizenry in America is a joke. 90% of the electorate are low informed voters who keep turning out for the Democrats because (in the words of my friends) they're "cool" and "let us do whatever we want".

My honest oppinion is that America is pretty awesome. You have the heart at the right place. Europe is full of totalitarian leftwing extremists condemning everything they don't understand ancd tyring to force their wicked way of life on everyone. Germans don't understand the American concept of freedom but prefer a strong state telling them what is right and what is wrong.

Nope, I'm serious. America is just like Fizzer. Not trying to shove down his political views in the throat of the WarLight forum participants. It's unbelievable for totalitarian leftwing european extremists that there are different world views contrary to their own. If this forum was run by a classic european guy he would delete many stuff not to his liking. Master of Desaster would have been banned long ago for questioning the mighty admin authority for changing the 1v1 ladder.

"America is just like Fizzer."

nah. I think Fizzer is atypical. Quietly gets things done, under the radar, non self-aggrandizing.

You know why I hate Europe vs. America arguments?

Both sides are pretentious and arrogant, both try to shove their political views on the other, and both never come out and admit it....

You're not just bitter. The bitterness is from seeing what's real. It's being able to see reality that's the key here. The more Americans that wake up to reality, the better your country's chances are for the future. That's where the hope lies.
