I am in support of other people learning about other cultures. But the whole idea of "cultural appropriation" made me realize...

The Anicent Germans invented pants. Therefore, anyone who wears pants without learning about the Germanic Tribes is cultrually appropriating.

Pajamas came from India and Perisa. Must someone learn about Persian and Indian culture before wearing them? Because otherwise its cultural appropriation.

Algebra was invented by Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizimi. Therefore, to pass a middle school algebra clas, one should spend time to learn and appreciate the culture of mediveal islamic states before doing your homework. Otherwise, you're borrowing something from another culture without respecting its traditions.

These three examples seem like ridiculous things to follow. After all, they're used by everyone now.

So why can't someone who is not African-American wear corn-rows? Cultural appropriation.
There is a double standard in cultural appropriation. Either utilize it for everything or nothing. Heck, why don't we all just stop writing? Nobody respects the Ancient Sumerians, the people who invented writing.

Nobody cares about cuneiform though. Regardless, in my opinion, people make too much fuss over cultural appropriation. To me, it's like writing a paper. As long as I can say where I got it from, I can use the information in my paper. I don't have to be an expert on some specific topic to use evidence from it to support a point. If I see something that looks cool, I may try to emulate it. As long as I don't misrepresent the source of it, or use it in a way that is deeply contrary to original purpose of whatever it is, nobody should be angry at all.

The idea of cultural appropriation seems pretty ridiculous to me. Nobody 'owns' a culture, and nobody should be given the power to prevent others from adopting whatever culture they want. It's just another form of political correctness run amok, IMO.

Unless they're falsely claiming that their own culture is responsible for another culture's work, what's the problem?
