I was wondering why some people were feeling insulted or taking it bad while I say "gg", I use it when I consider a game I play as a good one and when the game is definitely over (as most people do I guess), nothing insulting, but here again yesterday someone (The General) in the 1vs1 ladder started to become angry (I guess he was pissed) after I posted "gg" (game was clearly over) replying: "sorry, i won't be able to play for another 2 days and 23 hours. i'm going to need 3 days to think for each turn"

This guy must be very pissed for something, or just a sore loser dont know (maybe you already faced him and behaved the same way, consequently I should blacklist him), but well do you think that should "gg" be now avoided considering this disproportionate answer? Did you get similar experiences?

saying 'gg' from winning position, when your opponent is still fighting sounds like 'man, stop playing, you lose anyway'. It will never be taken kindly.

I normally blacklist everyone who says gg to me before i surrender. I know when i lost. No need to tell me.

ok got it, yes it must be harsh to say gg before game is over, so I will avoid this for my future games.

funny, the general said "gg?" to me first turn and shit talked the whole game.

saying gg before surrender is not cool imo, but stalling the game because of it is just pathetic.

claiming gg before surrender can be considered somehow insulting, as in you're assuming they are done while they are not. same as when i say my "surrender your world" tag when i think the game has been won, some people take offense to it, i barely use it anymore because of that, only as a joke with people i already know now.

when game seems done but opponent hasn't surrendered yet i sometimes ask "gg?", that doesn't feel as insulting since you're asking the opponent about it, and not assuming he is done.

I normally tell my opponent if I think I'm losing, and that the next turn or two should tell me for certain. That way s/he knows that I'm just making sure I cant win before surrending, and then I say gg

I do always say "gg" once it's clear that defenders are surrending/going to surrend(mostly because they wrote in chat first). Of course if you say that earlier(as MoD said) it sounds like "surrend! don't you fuckin see i m winning?noob!" which is not polite at all.

Grow up. All it means is Good Game which to me sounds like I had fun. If you can't handle somebody saying they had fun one turn before you surrender then you probably shouldn't be playing warlight.

I understand that people have "developed" there OWN definition for gg such as assuming the game is over and assuming that the person who says it will win but that simply isn't the dictionary definition of gg.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=GG

Additionally, you just can't make up your own definition of a word unless you are all secretly Webster Dictionaries alts.

Don't say gg it's fucking insulting and makes your opponent look like a bitch. Of course he's going to drag the game out just to piss you off, because you deserve it.

Gg has a good meaning. But as well as "you are the best" after a game where your opponent didn't play well, it's inappropriate in some situations. For example when your opponent didn't surrender yet. I usually tell the guys that it was rude and explain why. When they don't excuse they meant it that way so they deserve my blacklist.

I have no problem with smeone saying GG before the end. I doesnt matter if they think they won or not, the outcome is still determined by the skill. So guys dont outrage please.

Before the game is over, GG is impolite because it presumes the game is over before it's actually over. It generally strikes me as impatient (and sometimes gloaty).

I have absolutely no problem with "GG?" before the game is over.

not to mention sometimes people think they are in a winning position while it is not that clear, i've came back and win games where my opponent tried to get me to surrender with a ridiculous gg in the chat. I'd rather take 2-3 more turns to see if i really lost the game rather than surrender too early. Personnally i don't take too much offence at the early "gg", but it does give me incentive to continue the game even more, to see if i can stick it to the guy and get a sweet revenge for that mildly insulting "gg".

I say gg to a player who has no chance of winning. You find it insulting that I do this? I find it infuriating that some random schmuck won't surrender and instead waste my time on a match both of us know I have already won.

But in that situation you're saying gg to the non-surrender precisely because it's insulting.

Saying gg to me before I have declared that the other player has won or that I'm surrendering soon is enough usually to make me drag a game out on purpose (assuming I'm at my computer anyway) which in a way is exactly what you're doing but in reverse ;)

I have sometimes wanted to say to my opponent gg to denote in a tight and exciting game that it is indeed a good game, no matter the end result. I think however this is usually mis-interpreted and I most likely require a different way to express that in short hand.

People don't say gg to me before I surrender. They say gg to me when they surrender, because I don't lose.

On games with fog it's (usually) impossible to know just how much of an advantage one player has over the other. Saying "gg" before it's clear cut implies that you've made the assumption you've already won, and are prodding the other to give up. This inspires defiance in the other player and will have the reverse effect of making them less likely to surrender.

True, it's annoying when someone has clearly lost and continues playing, but it's not that big of a deal. If you can't be bothered to take some quick turns in a game you have in the bag, well, frankly that's your problem.
