I'm direct British (England to be exact) descent on my father's side. (Actually documented)
My mother claims her side of the family descends from about 5 different countries but there's no documentation on that side so I don't flaunt it.

You are not!
Unless you were brought to this country and have a decent understanding of our history/culture.. I will never accept you as Irish. You're American.

Except for, in American, a lot of people find the countries they came from an important thing to know...
I once had a friend who could name the dozen or so countries she had "descended from" in order from memory.

"Descending from" Is completely different to claiming to be "Irish-American"
You descend from Ireland.
You aren't Irish.
I can see where your coming from but you have descended..
Saying I'm Irish - American is wrong.. As lets be honest you don't have a clue what Ireland is or about..

Well:
I know Dublin's the capital of Ireland. Catholicism was up until recently a huge deal there. There the 19 the ( I believe) nation to legalize homosexuality. Potatoes, which were originally imported from Argentina, are important there. In the 1840s-1860s, a potatoes famine struck, forcing many Irish to flee to America...
