What is the point of Real-Time ladders?: 8/24/2015 02:55:35

There is a activity issue with real-time ladders.

At most only 2-3 people join the ladder looking for a game.

Average you will be waiting for 30 minutes for a game.

Problems ^^^

Solutions?

Reduce the level requirement down.

More incentives. Increase points.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This isn't a fun experiance.. It's a pain-suffering experiance..

Why don't you just leave?

1. Competitive.
2. Open Games? I'm done with Open Games. Too many bad experiances there.

What's other people opinions about this?

Here is a tip: Join when there are odd number of people there.
This make sure that at least one player is waiting for a new game. So the system will match you within 5 minutes.

I agree we need more incentives for the RT ladder. One possible way is to let players have the option of showing his/her TrueSkill Mean in the place of the level. So instead of "Lv59 John", one can have "TSM2200 John".

But why even have the rt ladder if nobody likes using it? I would say that the only reason it exists is to allow lower level people to get a taste of what ladder games are like. This is why don't even have 300 people on the lvl ladder. Its because the first experience people have with ladders is the rt ladder which sucks beyond belief. Nobody actually looks at your rt ladder ranking anyways when determining how good of a player you are when you can just go on the lvl ladder and hammer out a decent standing.

If we were to believe that was the sole purpose of the Real-Time ladder. Than It is a failure.

When there is only 50 ranked people and taking almost 30 mins for a 1v1 Real-Time ladder.

Would it almost discourage people from joining other ladders????

Point of RT ladders is to lose a lot. Multi day games are played better. I want some idea of league or better scoring system. Maybe replace RT by fast tourneys for activity.

I only play three to five games in rt. And I don't care about rating, just winning against some good players sometimes. RT needs quick tourney events or maybe more bragging rights like automatically view all games with a player and wins losses. Also notification when a player joins. RT needs a vote for multi to reduce boot or the difficult board.

I only like rt because of quick games real times, quick wins and the templates. I wouls also want to track player when he joins rt. I must continue beating dom. :)

That just depends upon your skill and preference. While this is more true about the Real-Time ladder (as you have to master multiple templates at once, where some are luck-based and none use the "Pure-Skill" format wholly), some players play better in Real-Time, whereas others are more comfortable with Multi-Day games. It depends upon your preference (if you like fast paced games that you can finish quickly, or slow ones that allow you to think more), and upon your personality ultimately.

RT = fast tourneys for activity? What does that mean?

While i see it doesnt attract that many players i never have to regularly wait over 10 minutes. Granted i play mostly the same people every time, but i also like that.

If a few templates were fixed, and the actual rating system was fixed (if your points are so high even if you win you can lose 1 or 2 points against bad opponents).

Also i much prefer having a ladder with multiple templates than 1v1 ME non stop.

The 1v1 ladder is more reliable for me. The RT Ladder just isn't much fun.

By fast tourney, I meant quick event. A tourney link will be created when more than ten join the ladder. This very small tourney could just be four players. You gain more rating or lose in tournament.

much more challenging to play quick game against a rated opponent then to wait forever for someone to take their turns in multiday or play random open games against newbs.

templates could use another round of poll voting though.

I don't play RT ladder a lot, here are my reasons:

1) it can take a while to get a game. I often only have an hour to kill, so if I don't get a game after 15 minutes I leave. I'd like to see the boot time reduced myself. These are not team games, you don't need all that time that is given.

2) the templates still need some work. It has been discussed, but 2 or 3 of them everyone hates. If we got those tweaked I think more would play

I usually only join if i see i'll get a game within the next creation-periode (kinda lame, ikr), but usually i don't have the time to wait 15+ min to get a game and finish it early enough.

i usually join for 2-3 minutes and either get a game or leave to go do something else.
if there are minimum 3-4 people active in the ladder it usually throws you a game.
only way to solve this is to have more people playing the ladder.

I'd like to see the heavy earth one replaced. I am surprised he hasn't used some of the other settings not present on other RT templates (like he has in a few seasons)...like Multi Attack.

East Asia needs a change to neutral amounts or luck because a 5v3 fail is killer.

There was a pretty extensive discussions of the templates in another thread, where maybe there was a poll on what to keep/change.

At any rate, I think participation issues are largely caused by the dislike for some templates. Put good templates on there and people will play more.

i would only fix east asia and get rid of the light fog one.

poll for removal is useless because a) it's not official b) there is no alternative for fixes or replacement templates

Doesn't have to official.. Can still show the trend or reasoning why the ladder isn't populated.

It's accuracy would be debated obviously of course.

I'm sure there is some fixes or other templates to replace the unpopular templates? Right? I'm not sure but reducing neutrals would be a good fix without luck. I don't feel like I can put any point in this topic as I'm unfamilar with this aspect.

Rather It Is or Not.. Thank you Szewenigen (I'm never good at spelling X( ) For the Real-Time Cup I think it has given players a huge incentive to play Real-Time ladder. It has made me so happy :)

Thank you all!

If one likes to play RT games, there is no good alternative to RT ladder, which can be considered the reason for its existence :). You join, you get a game quickly if there are players around. You play, you win or lose and you can kind of keep track of your and pother ppl ratings. Multiple templates is also fun, other than a couple (big earth, oceania?).

Some ppl forget to leave the ladder while they play, so sometimes there is a player but he/she is already in a game (with max 1 game at a time, obviously) - but that is easy to check by clicking the name. If he is not, the game usually starts quickly, if ladder is not broken, as it was a few days ago.

P.S. On some maps, e.g. China, neutrals play a big role, and it is not just about perfect expansion, as you likely run into your opponent quickly enough.
