Soldier of Fortune Magazine, Inc. appeals a $ 9.4 million jury verdict against it in a wrongful death action brought by the son and mother of a murder victim. The jury found that Soldier of Fortune acted with negligence and gross negligence in publishing a personal services classified advertisement through which the victim's husband hired an assassin to kill her. We reverse the judgment entered on the jury's verdict.




Summary :

The magazine placed an ad for a "MURDER".

It is a subscription magazine. Offers for killing someone is wrong. The whole industry of serial killers is ugly.

Mercenaries are just more honest then soldiers about what they do.

It was a civilian. The one that made the request was the husband of the victim. :/



Thou shalt not kill.



Unless it is an official war with a country.

"Thou shalt not kill ......unless I say so" killing a woman and a child in the US is the same as killing a woman and child in Iraq , war or peace.

They are not combatants so they don't die unless it is collateral damage.


Geneva Convention.



They are many rules for war. Chemical weapons should be illegal by now. And Anti-Personal mines are ruled out because of all the minefields in Vietnam that keep killing people.

On a note, it is very common for soldiers after war to receive a low pay for their efforts and not be recognized as they should.

WW1 Veterans demanding to get a higher pay for their efforts. Some soldiers received a lot less than a factory worker.

Collateral damage is government slang for killing civilians and blowing up buildings they weren't supposed to
blowup.

And the US violates many rules of war. Most notably use of incendiary weapons.

The Geneva conventions are about as useful as rules in a real time world diplomacy.

The ONU is as useful as Warlight EULA.

Nobody follows the rules of war, though.
