Description

On 1/1/20, Hong Kong police, hiding behind their masks and covered from head to toe and without identification, fired their first tear gas cannister at 7 minutes into the new year.

Late in 2019, there was a city wide election of local legislators. Of the 18 districts in Hong Kong, the pan-democrats won in 17 districts, the pro Peking camp had only 1 district. This is a reversal of the earlier election, when the majority of districts were pro Peking. Note that such election is only for show, as the Hong Kong chief executive, attorney general equivalent, and the police chief, who have caused this mess, are still taking their very large salary in the midst of causing all this chaos. The Hong Kong chief executive is elected only by the rich and powerful, numbering fewer than 2000. Carrie Lam, for example, was "elected" with only 777 votes.
