My Great-Grandfather fought in WWII, was taken as a prisoner of war, but survived. My Great-Great-Uncle also fought in WWII, but he died on the frontlines. My Grandfather fought in the Algerian War, and survived. Much further back in my family's history, my great(X-something) grandparents fought in the Scottish Campbell-MacDonald Clan Wars (A minor civil war in Scotland a few hundred years ago, when Clans were still important).
