most of the clans on warlight are focusing on growing their clan and having as many members as possible

instead, what they should be doing is trying to improve the quality of players already present in the clan

i don't want to spoil their so called reputation,so try not to mention any such clan's name on this thread

instead what they should be doing is actively participate in ladders,at least 1 of them each

we see many clans that have tournaments for their members which is supposed to be for fun and to improve the skills of the players, but who stays for the post-match analysis?hardly anyone(if you are, good:))

there's also a mentality among weak players that they cannot win against strong players, some think they will win eventually, they even practice on the template to win against their opponents
but do they analyze how their opponents usually start in those templates?do they try to make counter picks?NO

there are only a few players who change their starts based on their opponents instead of staying in their own closet of picks
be those players and you can defeat anyone

So basically you recommend to play the player, not the board? Sounds like bad advice to me.
I fully support any post-match analysis though.

its not for elites like you though
when i played 1st time against you,i did analyze your previous games, but i didn't forget to play the board, could not have won without using the proper resources, and your attitude in that game was more to kill me and less to expand, yeah i benifited myself from it

Me and my friend (from another of the new clans) are going to do the 2 v 2 ladder seriously once we reach level 52. And also, many of them attempt to be fun and more community like instead of competitive.

I'd love to see some more Elite clans. I'd make GRIDLOCK ffa or team Elite, but we're a Diplo clan. We do strive to get good Diplo players, and to make them Elite. (We all know you're targeting Lost Wolves and Royal Falcons (And After Dark?) btw. They're Diplo clans too, which is why they don't have a lot of ladder games)

Ryiro, I agree completely. If a clan only serves itself or the ego of its leadership, it is a failure of a clan. Each and every clan should add some value to the larger warlight community, (which is one reason I have issues with clans that are always sniping at each other)...

Whether or not it's true, nobody in this thread is upset that some clans are attacking others or have oversized egos. The issue at hand is that so many clans are simply trying to expand exponentially, as Ryiro and Sze were saying.

You can scroll down the clan page for a lot of these large clans and click on one of the literally hundreds of players. 50%+ of the time, they are players with <100 games played, ~20% win rate and often times inactive for months or more. These aren't clans, their not even loose collaborations. They don't have the intra-clan competition in clan tournaments or on ladders that some of the higher level, more venerable clans have.

I could be off base here, but I see those as very related issues.

Q. What drives the desire to recruit anyone and everyone?
A. I want the biggest clan -> Leaders Ego

Q. What drives the desire to not spend the time setting up events for your clan members?
A. Why should I spend my time on them? I'm the leader, they're the peons -> Laziness and (again Ego)

Q. What drives the lack of desire to train players up?
A. If they want to get better, they can do it themselves -> Laziness and Ego

Q. Why do I attack other clans on the forums?
A. They are a threat to my growth and goal of having the biggest clan. -> Ego

Q. Why does it upset me so much if someone says something bad about my own clan?
A. [same as previous answer]

So to be honest, to me I see what Ryiro was talking about:
1. Not improving quality
2. Not encouraging ladder participation
3. Not properly preparing for games
4. Not properly analyzing games.
As symptoms of the disease.
I believe the disease itself boils down to the Ego of the Clan Leadership to which I add another symptom that I've noticed of clans sniping at each other on the public forums.

As to your last point Master ARC, I completely agree and acknowledge that this is just how I see it. I could very well be all washed up. lol!

we are a rather large clan (53 members I think), all our members are active at least once a week (any who go beyond are booted) we are fairly new but at the moment we have joined LEA's 5v5 tournament and have organised a clan tournament of our own, I myself create games for the clan, I don't believe that it is wholly the clan size that contributes to the image that The Wolves have given themselves, But the members they allow into the clan.

Well, nobody can say what a clan should be doing. It is not for me or anyone else to determine their clan model. However, I place NO value on those spam clans. They are a waste in my mind, but if the members get something out of it, so be it. Just don't send me invites and dont spam the forums it does not really matter to me much.

I agree with Sze on picking. When I started playing the ladder, I did what Ryiro suggests (picking based on opponent). I found that sometimes it gave me the upper hand, but more often I guess them wrong and was out of position. If I am playing a noob, I might check to see if they triple pick all the time and guard against that, but that is it. Otherwise, you just have to trust your read of the board.

The most important thing for most clans, I believe, is getting talented, active players to join. This is a challenge and there are three established ways to go about this...

1- Spam invites then try to filter out the talented individuals.
(Not very popular and doesn't necessarily work)

2- Recruit people who have been playing Warlight for a while and try to convince them to join your clan
(Most experienced players already have a clan and it will not work in most cases)

3- Recruit new players and help them to level-up and become skilful players.
(Hard to spot talent and not all new players stay)

1. Stupid idea!
2. Very true.
3. Its not that hard to spot talent your just bad at it.

After_Dark focuses on the enjoyment of our players not solely the skill of our clan (although we do have some fairly skilled members), This is why we are diplomacy clan (although recently we have been delving into some competitive gaming).

this is partial true. In general you shouldnì't pick based on the opponent, but based on the board yeah.
But i am sure, ceteris paribus (same board) szew would make different pick agaisnt me than agaisnt another very good player, as he expect me going for some dirty counter.

I advice to pick based on the opponent ONLY if you know him very well, and you are sure what he is going to pick.
