So, I want to make a map of one of my favorite book series, "The Edge Chronicles" but the way the series is laid out, there are different books at different points in the history of the world. I cannot figure out how to incorporate this, or whether I should just make 3 maps. (here are the 2 main issues:

Have you tried doing the whole map isometrically?

It seems like the best solution.

EDIT: What I mean by the above is that (from my understanding) they're separate islands. That being so, you could just make sure the islands are connected through appropriate connections (airports, ports, etc.). And since it's being done isometrically, you don't have to care for where the islands are located, and unlike a top-down perspective, unless you'd like to be inaccurate when it comes to direction (e.g., the continent of Australia is not located on the equator, and Antarctica is not located to the east of it). :D

But doing separate maps is probably a better solution, if doing a big project gets too much.

I'm not sure I understand you. Are you saying make both the Floating Island, and the grounded one? that still doesn't solve the full problem of The Bridge across The Mire, or the alteration of the City. Or are you saying make both "Edges" apart from eachother?

... To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I was on about yesterday, so I can't really clarify what I posted earlier. Last night's sleep wiped my mind clean of what I was thinking yesterday. :(

So another suggestion: how about you make them into separate maps in chronological order?

That was really the only thing I could think of. I think it's honestly best to do these Top-Down, as this side-view is extremely difficult for playing on.
