Oh boy. Hey skurbs...I have some "snow" for you.

North Sea Oil is claimed partially by Norway+Denmark. Be careful with the figures.

And the EU wouldn't exist without Germany

Original post: Lithuania got screwed :P when you use the euro, the prices tends to be similar to the european countries (when these countries get way more salary than the lithuanians...)

And about the ireland, italy, spain, greece, etc... I think the problem is a mix of what they are asked to do to mantain their economies and the serious problems with their politicians, at least in the spanish case (Less public funds for everything and 1 corruption case every... 2 weeks? because of the ilegal use of public funds)

Or in other words, people are much more likely to leave the country if Lithuania adopts the euro, and they did, so there you have it.

It has been only 2 weeks since we adopted the euro and I haven't notices any mass emigration...

Have you heard of a thing called global market? Current rise in prices after adopting the euro was very small.

Anyway Lithuania was basically using the euro (in the form of a national currency with a fixed exchange rating) for the past 10 year or so. Before that you could say we had the US dollar (also a fixed exchange rating for 10 years). So since gaining independence in 1990 we didn't have an independent monetary policy. Now we can influence it by at least a bit and the benefits (cheaper loans, no taxes for currency exchange, geopolitical security, etc.) greatly outweigh the drawbacks (insignificant rise in prices).

Braak, the rise in price isnt something that will happen tomorrow, it is something constant (I mean, i know the prices increase because of the inflation) but it is completely true that 10 years ago, at least in Spain, the bread had half price, as it happens with other basic products like coffee or milk.

I hope the change is good for you, but after experiencing it i can say it is not good for countries with lower economical power than the strong countries of Europe
