Hi,

Found this site earlier today and currently learning the ropes by playing the single player games.

Of course level 1 and 2 are a type of tutorial and I guess so is level 3, but I am struggling on this level. Please, no flaming posts saying i'm rubbish or a newb, I know I am.

I have tried capturing areas as quickly as possoble or expanding slower, but their always seems to be one opponent that just gobbles up the other AIs and swamps me. Am I missing an obvious trick or can someone provide some tactics for this level?

I am an experienced Risk player and I know in a few days I will laugh at how easy this level is, but right now I just want to earn the basics so I can progress onto multiplayer.

Keep restarting til you have a good starting space, that isn't immediately next to an AI. Asia and Africa are best. Get bonuses as quick as you can. When you meet an AI, he will attack you. The AI is fairly predictable though, so you can defend and counterattack and usually take 1 AI out early. If you meet 2 AIs early, it's probably too much, start over. Once you have a lot of bonuses, like all of Africa or most of Asia, you can fight them all. They will continue to fight each other on that level, so that helps.

In the last two games I thought I was in good positions, taking Africa or SA with Antartica, but then one AI comes in with a 60+ army out of the blue.

Also started in Asia but felt I was fighting on too many fronts. Again I thought I was in a good position until an AI came in from Europe and swamped me.

When I see another AI I don't attack straight away and dig in somewhat. Next time I try I will take them on straight away.

Yeah, you have to attack them. The AI is better on offense than it is on defense, IMO. Get into their bonuses and you'll beat them eventually.

Ok just played a level 3 game where I started in Antartica. Quickly took that continent and soon after had Australia and South America.

Sam my first AI in West Africa so I popped over to disrupt him. I was also starting to expand into Indonesia and Central America. Then bang an opponent came in with 27 armies against my 15 and took me n Central America. I reinforced but he just ploughed what seemed to be all his recruits into one place and scythed through central and south america. In Indonesia a similar thing happened and I lost Australia.

So where did I go wrong?

Did I expand too quick and was fighting on too many fronts? The Africa thing was not taking up any men and was just disrupting the opponent. However I was fighting for my life in Indonesia and America.

I attacked the opponent as soon as I saw him but that did not work.

I am determined to beat this level and beyond so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Really, you just have to get lucky. Try playing the Europe Challenge instead, you just have to use Airlift Cards well in it :D

There. Remember what I said about starting in Asia or Africa? It's because those places have good bonuses that are quick to expand into. Australia and especially South America are terrible bonuses, they take too long to take. Meanwhile, the AIs are expanding in the fast bonuses. Just restart until you get a good starting spot.
