I wanted to give a heads-up to a new feature coming on Wednesday.

In 2.0, maps can have a unlock-level associated with them. Players have to be this level to create games with that map.

This doesn't apply to most people reading this post. Any account that's grandfathered will automatically have access to all maps, just as they do today. This is done so that nobody loses access to a map they had access to before 2.0. Most of you can just ignore this post completely as it doesn't apply to you.

However, new accounts that are created after the points/levels announcement won't have access to all maps by default. They'll need to level up to unlock additional maps they can create games with. Note that they can still join any game -- you just need to unlock the map in order to create games with it.

Map creators are in full control of what level their maps unlock. As a map creator, you can log into your map at any time, click the "Edit Name/Description" button and set the level. You can do this even after it's public.

If you want your map available to everyone regardless of level, you can just set your map to level 1 and everyone will be able to use it.

The advantage of setting a level to your map is increased visibility. For example, if you set your map to level 10, whenever someone levels up to 10 it'll pop up your map on their screen. For best visibility, you should try to set your map to a level that has few other maps assigned to it (or at least, where your map is rated more highly than the others at that level.)

Whoops pressed post too soon :/

If the map creator (with their currently public maps) doesn't set a visibility level? What's the default? Level 1?

That's an interesting feature. It would definitely give new players further incentive for leveling up. Thanks for grandfathering it in, though. It wouldn't be fun to lose maps that I've already played.

I will first need to see how quick leveling up goes before setting limits on my maps.
And what happens when someone invites you to a game/tournament on a map you can't play yet? Will they automatically decline, or will they still get the game on their page without the option to join it?

as you can join games with maps you haven't unlocked - my guess is that you'll be able to join tournaments fine, just not create them.

This will defiantly provide mini story like encouraging for people to level up. What is the max level a player can reach?

Very interesting, but same as Moros. It depends on how fast the levels go up.

Not to add to the speculation too much, but a feature that I see coinciding pretty naturally with this is to allow game creators to set a max/min level to join games.

That seems likely Eagle, but it it wouldn't be too much different from what we have already in place in prereqs.

I don't think there should be a grandfather clause.... just knock everyone down, make us all level up. Why make two tiers?

Pooh, people still start at level 1, but Fizzer doesn't want to take any features someone currently posses away from them, such as making games with maps you used to be able to or other things (not sure what he is taking away yet). Also it is better like this imo

Besides, if existing players wouldn't be grandfathered, no games at all would be created on those maps until somebody levelled up. Very few games would be created until a lot of people levelled up. I don't think that's a good scenario.

@Mesan King:
Could you please rephrase that; I have no idea what question you are trying to ask...?

He is asking to have a Warlight map creatore built in! So you can draw directly from the site, without downloading any program to paint. Thank me later.

One of my map has unlock level 40. As I see the highest level player now level 9. So this mean that noone can create game with this map until someone reach the level 40?

A tip for any map-makers:

If you're looking for visibility, don't set your map to a level that is a multiple of ten. Not only will those naturally be the busiest levels, but they are also the levels that appear to have maps already selected.

Urfang it is for creation. So grandfather accounts and accounts of that level can create a game with that map. Any person can join a game with that map.

Gui thought it would be funny to set his map levels so high that nobody could use them, so he locked everyone out of his maps.

I've fixed it now so grandfathered accounts can use his maps again, since I didn't explain before that setting the level too high would lock everyone out.

Map developers: Don't set your level higher than 200 or you'll lock everyone out of your map, even grandfathered accounts.

Fizzer, that is not an accurate description. According to the logic of the update, grandfathered accounts can use maps no matter what, so no matter the level mapmakers set their maps it does not affect the grandfathered accounts. It is only the new accounts that are affected by the new levels. I think new players should start wih very few maps and slowly unlock them. The standard level you set all maps at was too low (almost all maps were set at 1, some maps were higher: for example, Roman Imperium's mapmaker is not around, yet his map unlocks at level 2 or 3). Some of my maps are not as simple as oher maps (in terms of how the bonuses work). Why have newbies play such maps and then rate it badly, if they won't understand the bonus system (or won't be at a certain level to want to or be able to adjust the bonus values to their liking)? If my levels were a conspiracy, as you suggest, I wouldn't have made it public knowledge (and give a reason why.

As this thread is about maps, I may as well write it here:

Fizzer, I think there's something wrong with the "win on X maps" achievement. I just got the "won on 50 maps" achievement and I'm SURE I haven't played on 50 maps yet. In fact, I did count: played on 41, won on 30. I had to count manually so I may be off by 1-2, but not by 20.
Does changing bonus values make the system treat it as a different map? That's the only explanation I could come up with.
