So I have been assigned to fight a former rank 1 Heyheuhei right after I finished my 5th Ladder game, I'm just a newbie at Warlight and this battle is too heavy for me.

I have a few questions...

1. Is there any in-depth strategy guide for Warlight Ladder 1 vs 1?

2. If I would like to ask for a Warlight mentor, who (or which clan) should I look for?

3. If I've got South-Pole, should I do what Tigger has done in the first round in http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?GameID=4159096 ?

You had a big advantage on him from the start. You blocked 2 picks with 1 pick and got a combo on a safe 3 bonus. Next time make the 3 bonus first and defend the counter pick. So first move should have been a 3 from south to north america and a 4 to Mexico. Rest add on counter. Next turn you complete the bonus with a 4 to be safe and defend your counter (could be attack depending on information about him). That would mean you had same income, but a bigger stack. That should have been enough to defeat him.

If I was him, I would have attacked 2 territories with a 3v2 in on southpole and put the rest in affrica. Next turn the last 3v2 in southpole (disadvantage, so more risk in the play) and finish the bonus. I would try to keep that other pick in africa a secret and use it the next turns to get card pieces. Would be a very hard game, but I would never picked all in africa to start with.

he is asking about how he should play vs hhh, not that game. I have played some ladder #1's in the past, and i just played normally against them, except i spent more time thinking about my moves and picks to make sure i didnt mess up on anything, if you want a mentor, go to a wm or apex, but if none are willing flyingbender in VIW is a very good mentor, he is just a bit harsh

I generally think playing different against someone is a bad idea. You just need to play well, regardless of the opponent. Sometimes you can alter your play (say the person always triple picks), but more often than not you end up screwing up the right play by over thinking your opponent.

My only advice is to not make a mistake because he will burn you on it. Take your time.

HHH is a very aggressive player at times. Any tiny mistake you make he will capitalize on. Don't make mistakes and you may win, but don't hope for it ;)

Distract him by talking a lot in chat. This is all.

But honestly, you can take a look at his games, to see how he play and stuff. It might help.
Hard to say how exactly you should play. Take your time, stay focused, think more than usually.

just dont forget that #1s tend to be quite good at braking your bonuses, even when they have lower income they tend to be able to turn the game around

when playing against people better, take risks such as 3v2s and even 2v2s, check history every turn and try to guess what bonuses he has, keep your eye open and see if your bonuses can be flanked by him.

I can tutor you if you want, I tutored Seahawks on Strategic 1v1 for a bit too, but I doubt I'll beat you, you're probably a very good player's alt.

I gave him a few teaching games, he said he wasn't an alt (hard to believe)
A very good players alt, not really a "very" good player cause I beat him, but he is a good player.

haha YAAT I will perform much much better if I am not being pushed to move quicker. I'm inexperienced and I need more time to think to avoid making mistakes :)
