Err yeah I'm trying to make a map. I got an image and saw from the video how you draw the lines. I made a few territories - just capitols to start of with as I could just draw squares. But when I went to label them the whole map was still one territory. :(
This will probably take me a long time as I'm not great with inkscape having just gotten it.
But as a starting question to get me going. Which tool should I be using just to make a simple square territory?
I thought seeing as I have a semi star wars tag and I don't know of any maps and the franchise is popular I could make a series of them. It'd be something to learn.
I tried the square - made 10 capitols to start of easy and it every time I tried to name the next one it was suggesting the whole map was one territories with no divisions grrr!
Maybe I can ask you some newb questions in PM, or here when I get stuck?
Bah image shack sucks now. Can't get a decent size link up :(
if youre using a shape tool, make sure you turn it into a path when its done. (Path -> Object to Path) if its not a path, warlight will distort it the fuck up.
Does anyone who can do inkscape have that program where you can remotely control someone elses pc? My circle making tool on inkscape has decided to now only make triangles and all the territories I label become the same number as the last one I labelled. And the tutorials have toolbars that my inkscape doesn't GAH!
I don't expect to be able to do this quickly baby steps are fine. But if anyone can remotely control my pc just to show me how to make the first few bonuses I'd be happy as I would be on my way. :)
click the circle. select the tool right below the cursor tool (its a cursor w/ dots) click the circle and it will show all the points of the circle. if you click one you can delete it.
I think I'm going to write up a guide "To map making" one day. It will literally cover everything in easy steps, hopefully limiting the number of poor quality maps that come out.
You have to get used to inkscape, learn with tutorials on youtube (or another website) how to work with it. But sometimes the program is unstable (has a mind on it's own? maybe). Then save your file and close inscape and open the program again. you need a computer/laptop who can handle such kind of program. Esspecially when you make a huge map.
