I was wondering how to invite someone into a team ladder and if they have to be a Warlight Member.

only members can join ladders. you have to be member if you want to join ladders.

yes, they have to be members too. you can only invite members to your team. you can do it by clicking "ladders" then "2v2 ladder" then "join ladder" and then choose someone from the list.
