First I'd like to ask Fizzer or any forum moderator to make this thread notable since I'd really like to get as many replies as possible.

Season II of 20 is almost over and it made me think a bit about the format of the games. Again there was some boot involvement that made it harder for some players so the end results will not be completely accurate leaving some "what if" questions unresolved. Anyway I think there is an alternative system that'd make boots less important and would have less impact and that is to make the system composed of several smaller stages. Also in my experience small RR's are played relatively quickly. Anyway I'd like to run this event as an alternative to 20 (I won't participate in it) possibly being a continuation of it if there is enough responce. The Champions League would be composed of several stages which I will explain step-by-step:

1) First I need 32 players that'll want to participate, of course the idea is to get top 32 players.
2) They'll be divided into 3 tiers, 1-8, 9-16, 17-32.
3) I'll make 8 groups (A-H) randomly drawing players into them with the rule being there must be only 1 tier 1 and tier 2 player in each group. The rest will be determined randomly.
4) Every group will start an internal 1vs1 RR and 3 simultaneous 2vs2 games (they'll play in each combination with themselves), making it 4 games at a time total.
5) Each win will be worth 1 point, in case of a need of a tie-breaker the 1vs1 result will serve as one.
6) Top 2 advance, making it 16 people total.
7) We make the exact same thing as in the 1st round except we have 4 groups now with the rule being 2 1st place players and 2 2nd place players in each group.
8)Top 2 of each group advance making it 8 people remaining.
9)8 people make 2 groups again and repeat the same thing, top 2 advance making it to semifinals.
10) Play-offs will be a best of 5 between 2 players, playing a 1vs1, 2vs2, 3vs3,2vs2 and 1vs1 game in that order (multiaccounts needed for that phase).
11) The winner of the playoff phase will be the winner of Warlight Champions League, there will also be a 3rd place match in the same best of 5 format.


So in short:
8 groups of 4 ---> top 2 advance ---> random draw
4 groups of 4 ---> top 2 advance ---> random draw
2 groups of 4 ---> top 2 advance ---> seeded semifinals (1st place of group A vs 2nd place of group B)

Anyway I think every single group stage should be played relatively quickly + having to play with random teammates might reduce the boot factor. I don't know yet what to do about the templates, they'll definitely be randomised betweed 1st, 2nd, 3rd round and semifinals, but i'm not yet sure in what way (i'll give templates, and let people vote, or maybe just pick them myself). Anyway I'll give it 1-2 weeks and start inviting people (tiers will be determined on past 20 results, personal experience or general consensus). Also the advantage of that format is that the partial results can be viewed quicker, so it'll be possible to make live events based around commentary and analysing particular groups etc..

Good idea, also it would be interesting if Lolo, Myth and you could go over the best games in the live streams when you need to fill up time :)
I would be happy to play, however if it is only the top 32 players in WL I don't think I would make the cut.
It's good to see you trying to make it more interesting for everyone though.

nice idea, but still feels like a lot of games, people might still lose interest or get booted half way through imho. and there is the problem that if one of the round robins gets stalled by a player on holidays everything else is on hold for the next round. might end up quite dragged out. but maybe CLOT could be used to set the games manually and bypass stalled games. guess the only way to know if it really works is to test it out.

ps, every round is composed of 6 games total for every players and 2vs2 games are played simultaneously. I expect every round to be finished very quickly.

I don't quite know where I qualify in terms of top whatever, but I would like to play if you think I'm good enough.

When will it start? Once you collect 32 players willing to play, once most top players response, or you have fixed date in mind?
I haven't decided yet if I want to be a cannon fodder here :P

Since 20 is 1-2 games away from end I think it may be very soon. As soon as I get 32 players (of course the better the players join the better it is for the whole event) I will start making draws. After I make the groups I'll make a new thread, announce templates and make tournaments and games.

I like the idea and I'd be interested in playing (If I make the cut). I'd say a good idea to get players for it is to defnitely invite all the A League players in [20], and I can link you the B League tournametns if you want so you can see how some of the guys did in them.

i'd like to play if possible, i'm doing pretty well in 1V1 B league, slightly less in 2V2... you know that feeling when your partner "didn't notice the wastelands"? -.-

I'll not be playing in this new season for I know of myself I'm not good enough to make the cut yet.
