I thought I understood the bonus system, but I clearly don't. Can someone help me figure out where I went wrong?

My territories, the income I think they are and the type of bonus:
2 in Western Guinean Forest for 0 income (forests)
2 in Adamawa Plateau for -1 income (mountains)
1 in East African Rift for 0 income (highlands)
1 in Madagascar for 0 income (highlands)
1 in Comoros for -1 income (tropical islands)

Yet, I have 3 income instead of -2

Their territories:
3 in East Sudanian Savanha for 2 income (grasslands)
1 in Highland Plateau for 0 income (highlands)
1 in Rift Valley Lakes for 0 income (exceptional lands)
1 in Lower Nile Valley for 0 income (excpetional lands)
1 in Mascarenes for -1 income (tropical islands)

He has an income of 6 instead of what I think it should be of 1

What gives? I though I had this all figured out, but I'm clearly missing something or is the map broke?

Base income is 5, not 0 like on Biomes. Your calculations are right, just add 5 to players' income.
