A few people seem to be unable to understand why so many people (me included) pick the girl. Well it's not all about sex :D It's somebody to talk to, to stop myself going mad in (admittedly comfortable, but ultimately horrible) solitary confinement. However, thinking about it, people don't do so well when only in each other's company - I haven't researched it but I think that some scientists did an experiment where some people were kept locked in a greenhouse with lots of plants (something to do with the fact that the plant provided enough oxygen for them from the carbon dioxide they exhaled). The people were completely fine, but they had to end the experiment because the people couldn't take each others' company any more (they argued constantly, and could have ended up fighting and hurting one another).
I had taken that aspect into account General Grun (you could know if you had read my part), but maybe it's because I have a bad image of whores/porn actresses(same thing really, one is just less private)that the thought of being locked up with that person doesn't entice me at all. Not even as company for that matter.
Personally, I think so far Aranka is the one who has it the best right now. However for 5 points $5million? not worth it IMO, it is halving your pay salary for often only 1 addition :S.
Obviously you have to stay clean, and most people should buy the hygiene products for (3) points.
Obviously you need food, and even though I am sure gourmet cooking would be great, the kitchen and cook books means you can learn so you can impress once you are out. A well spent (6) points.
What not many people have thought about yet, is if you get 2 pets (say dogs) one male one female, you can breed them and have puppies, so more companionship :) however you would need the garden. Overall (14) points on the pets, it just depends if you view them importantly. I haven't been allowed a pet before, but they help pass the time, so they're a good choice.
Since I would be cooped up in there for 10 years, I would be able to push myself to go to the gym often and workout (5) points towards the future.
This leaves me with 2 points, and many people have chosen the sunlight, however that is the same amount of points as the Garden and Greenhouse, which is 1 massive glass room + a garden, much better. With 2 points leftover a radio would be the best to listen to good music and know what's happening outside your basement.
In conclusion: hygiene products + kitchen + 2 pets + garden + gym + radio
By the way, do you think you are allowed 2 of the same thing? I don't see why not personally, but then I would have 6 points for something else, which I cannot be bothered to think of right now.

With everything ever published + unlimited supply of ingredients, you could probably fashion some decent workarounds for hygiene products and medicine. It's a little Walden-y, but it wouldn't be too bad (you get the shower free, y'know).
