So, the astronaut problem is impossible. By the same principles that you are attempting to solve the problem.

1) The Space Ship and the Astronaut are not moving.
-BS. They are both moving, what you're trying to say is that they are not moving relative to each other.

2) So, they're not moving relative to each other? Then how the H-E-Hockey Stick-Hockey Stick did he get 50 m away from the spacecraft and instantaneously stop (relative to the ship) without having something else exert a force on him? (N's 1st law)

So, he needs to be traveling at a rate of 50m/20minutes, or 2.5 m/min.

Assuming you weighed it wrong and the tool box is 6kg, then he needs to exert a force on the toolbox to have it travel at 25m/min.

I think I would throw 1 tool at a time as I got closer I could dial it in the actual direction I need to go.

Please re-read the first post of this thread. It says problems should not exceed high school level, and this problem clearly does.

since e^pi x i = -1, then -1 plus 1 = 0

@Burgoo King:
Remember that not all high schools in the entire world teach the exact same topics in mathematics. I can't remember for sure, but I think my high school didn't officially teach it either (in the last one or two years of my high school we had a class where the teacher raced through the normal material and then had time left for "hobbying around"; teaching stuff (well) outside the regular curriculum to the kids who where curious about mathematics and wanted to know more).

On a related note, unless you are a teacher, you don't get to prescribe how people proof something, any valid proof is, well, a valid proof. (The proof for the preceding statement: "Tautology, QED".)

well he shouldnt have been so smug about it. and also i said i want it proved this way. are there a set of rules that im unaware about that say i cant have it proved via a certain method? thats just idiotic,this isnt like a scientific community where we're proving unwritten hypothesis about particles or something i can ask for any specifics i want
