[M.C.]ARC-77 if it turned into any less than philosophical debate then this thread would have failed.Well said Wordsworth.

Artham is right. I can only speak one language, and am respectful/jealous of people who can speak more than one. I can tell if someone speaks English as a native language or as a second language, and I never judge non-native speakers on their command of the language. I'm just grateful that they put in the effort to learn mine.

I never bother to criticise anyone's grammar anyway, unless there is some sort of irony to their error - or if I am teasing them anyway (trollussa). I put up with it or skip their posts.

You are right Ozy but I make all my digs in jest with no malice or rightiousness. Its just sword practice with words and I think for the most also. I like these threads with bantering adding colour to our lives.

I speak spanish to some degree and I would smile if someone makes fun of my use because I know I commit atrocities when I speak it. I also have tried to learn French and Italian aswell as picking a few words up of Vietnamese and now Chinese. I do them all an injustice but I do try and I respect other's who try another language too. However, surely we can all laugh at each other's misfortunes at languages.

Now my serious gripe is with native English language speakers who are inept with it.

:P

No Yuri. That's stereotyping and possibly racist. I am talking about anyone of any nationality, race, religion or not or from any region who may consistently misuse their own native language. I don't wish to prejudge the type of person that would.

You know yuri, that comment was perfectly well timed. You said it at just the right interval that you set the perfect example of what Wordsworth was talking about.

@Ironheart,

By a "philosophical debate" I meant that it was philosophical not necessarily on the subject of grammar. Not to overuse the word, but a discussion of grammar is almost purely fact-based and cannot ordinarily be condoned as a philosophical conversation.
