Warlight QUIZ!: 1/2/2013 20:07:07

On 12, why wouldn't you want to give yourself the highest probablilty of taking South Pole on 1st turn, doing that with 2 guarenteed attacks, 1 ~80% attack, instead of 1 guarenteed and the other 2 with a 45% chance of failing and getting the bonus...

Your're talking about the difference in 1-2 armies in extras, compared to 3 armies for the bonus.

6 and 7 do not contradict each other, think more on those :)

That might be tricky, especially if you do not play strat 1vs1, hint: think about possibilities of preserving leftovers.

13: HINT: You are never alone on the map, think about intel gathering.

Yeah I got 38% too. Thanks for making it.

Also wondering why move order is significant in number 13.

Z-Dog - as 6 and 7 cannot be contradictory in any sense, I assume you meant #7 and #8. hint: stop thinking of only one terr in 8. As for SP i guess only problem is no multiple answer answer. #13 - enemie's intel on your odds of having bonus I guess.

It is nice that you ask about it, because it's sth very neat:

5+3+3 attack vs 4+4+3 attack... Hint: Count expected income stream and think about where does that extra 1 go.

Sorry, I meant 7 and 8 contradict each other. In 7, you're attacking with 5 overall. In 8, you only attack with 4

What can you learn by seeing the opponent take Argentina? The amount of armies used?

I got 69%. I like the ideas of scenario-based questions, but to me, it leaves a margin of error to what you think is "right" vs. what someone else thinks is "right".
I think background information is quite sufficient, however.

The beginning questions were easy, but its hard to click the right choice on an Apple product, and I got question 8 wrong because I pressed the wrong button.

If there are more of these quizzes (specifically selected with Medium Earth) I would like to try then out, since I am still very bad on that map.

Z-Dog, hint #2: Think about the difference in positioning in #7 and #8 and how can you execute an attack.

I think not attacking south pole is because you are not going to take it in the next turn, so there is not point trying to take it with 3 when you could take it with 4 the next turn. (I got it wrong though.)

I think you need to re-word question 9.

you decide to take south america in 2 turns after picking stage. How and where will you attack?

The problem is that B, F and G get you South America in two turns but you've marked them as incorrect. I think you marked them as wrong since they don't leave you in the best position for future turns, however that's not what you asked in the question.

I asked how and where will you attack and gave the relevant information. In the introduction I sepcifically said that there is always only 1 answer so you have to pick the best one.

Fizzer... you're supposed to post your score ;)

Szew, can you check my comment before about #12, balancing actually getting the bonus v. what to do with the remainders?

I replied to you before:

Here it is the loss of expected income vs posibility of opponent being in SA and attacking argentina. Switching from 4+4+3 to 5+3+3 loses you (0.8-0.64)*3=0.48 income, which is less than the 1 extra you get near Argentina and since it is very likely you will need that one extra in Argentina, that'd give you an additional 0.52 troops to work with. Globally you'd lose, but factoring in the probability of opponent striking Argentina, global leftovers might be less important than those near Argentina, especially since you'd very likely be forced to conuter Argentina on turn 2 in that position. That means that the decision which strategy is better is dependent upon our approximation of the probability of opponent going into Argentina on turn 1, if it is about 50% or more, I'd recommend 5+3+3, if not 4+4+3. Since there is no way to make that kind of approximation objectively, I said that both strategies are valid, all the others are dominated by them.

if the opponent removes all armies it is a possibility (= a risk), even if it isn't likely it's possible

Very good point Timinator, I'll rephrase the question. (note, formally it is correct, only warlight adds a "magical" 1 army to the defender if at the end of the turn it is 0-0).
