No, I don't believe it.
Communism can work on a very small scale, the fundament of our society, family, is a type of a commune... The difference in scale is not only quantitative, but qualitative. In modern society market and prices serve as primary canals of information distribution and without it there is no room for economic calculation which is the base for any economic decision making process. As a reference i'll give "Human Action" by Mises, chapter XXVI in particular. It is one of my favourite chapters in that book, very short and easy to understand.
