I wasn't referring to the winners having political ramifications in the slightest. Although there may be some subdued affects.

I'm talking mostly about hosting games. Which does have economic and therefore political affects. Also how Blatter being seduced by Putin can help Mr P give a greater illusion of power.

Think about it, Blatter likes being surrounded by such powerful people because it flatters his ego (or wallet although that's not certain). But why does Putin want to be there? Russia weren't in the final....

It suprises me that of all the people getting killed, leaders are never among them. How hard do you think it would be to kill these people you write petitions about? Are you morally against killing, or is it a problem of courage?

I would be fine with killing a figurehead if it was completely justified and had a realistic chance of ending the crisis.

I don't see him as a meaningful enough figure. I assumed you meant people of al-Assad's nature.

Killing him 10 years ago would have averted the crisis though, dont you think? We just need to be proactive.

Nah depending on the circumstances that could have started a war between nations. Abortion would have been ideal if we are talking about being proactive.

To be sure the killing of Assad would be good ... it's a Muslim country if radical Islam is impossible to know if the next one will be better ... and regardless it will only make war on the monarchy among terrorist organizations ... I'm not saying that Assad "good" is true very cruel but not necessarily killing bring peace.

If you don't consider the complexity of the context of a country like Syria, saying "we just have to kill their leader" sounds like the thinking of a 4 years old kid at most. Like Libya, Syria is a patchwork of ethnic groups, religious minorities and even nomads and tribes. Al Assad isn't a saint but succeed to preserve national unity by dealing with tribal logic and by giving the right to everyone to chose his own religion through a laic state. One of the very last heirs of Pan-Arabism in the middle east. I don't say it was a democratic system and there wasn't a few inequalities but all in all i doubt you could expect a better compromise regarding the complexity of the situation. Despite his authoritarianism the political regime had a certain legitimacy.

Syria's background has a lot of similarities with Lybia and you can see now the disaster in Lybia
after the occidental military intervention. Since a few years Syria is invaded by thousands and thousands of islamist fighters who murder everyone for a yes or a no. Ask the christians there and even some muslim minorities if they prefer Al Assad or the fanatic death squadrons backed by Saudi Arabia or Qatar.

Killing a significant leader has proved to be a disaster in the past.
Take Iraq. The Americans and the West with their great judicial proceedings invaded a soverign country and brought it to its knees. They then killed its President off. Look at the state it is in now. Social turmoil, civil war separation, division, death, chaos.
Saddam Hussein was a dictator in every sense. But he kept his nation in check. By killing off him and that ideology without proper preparation.. you only need to look at the news.

As for boycotting Russia. Whose up for a petition boycotting America in every possible way for their negligence, coup's and senseless double standards ? If we are gonna play the blame-game without looking at the situation and contructive arguments I say we should bring to light every war crime done by both sides.

Afterall no one view is crystal clear.
