Tell me if you think this sounds crazy but I think it would be cool if somebody could have 2 colors in one. What I mean by that is 2 colors that are stripes in any direction so you could add more diversity to the game.

I'm not sure this classifies as thinking you're crazy, just dumb, but red with blue stripes isn't a new color. It's just red with blue stripes.

Well, if they are going to make patterns, I'd say at least apply some aesthetic sense to it.

I wouldn't want to see two contrasting colors side by side, but I am okay with a color and a lighter shade of it in whatever configuration. Also, I am not a fan of neon, or eye-jarring colors. Half of the colors on WL already bug me. Sometimes, I recolor another player's color so it doesn't make me tantrum in my head.

Colors that I hate (most hated to least hated):
Aqua, Electric Purple, Blue, Orange Red, Red, Green, Deep Pink, Yellow, Purple.

In my opinion, Warlight should make more colors that are pastel like:
Ivory, Lime, Tan, Copper Rose, Teal.

Also, if people have these new proposed stripe color patterns there's less of a chance you would have to change your color when joining a game.

I also find neon annoying.

Ivory is a terrible colour! Too easily mistaken for neutrals.

I would like to see hatch patterns for a different use, like denoting wastelands, warlords, etc on original distribution. Also starting locations you had intel on.

Arun - you should consult a specialist.. I dont know if there's a cure for color blindness though..

However orangered and red are WAAAAAY to similar..

as for the patterns - what if there was a player with red color with blue stripes, and a blue player with red stripes? or red with blue and orangered with blue? it only makes the distinction less apparrent

Coming up with 24 distinct colors is difficult when you have to account for the same color looking different on different monitors. Some monitors don't deal well with darker colors and once you account for these monitor differences you're stuck trying to create 24 distinguishable colors that are all essentially capable of variance based on the computer. If you think you can do better I challenge you try. Creating patterns is a whole other thing and I'm not even sure it would fit into some of the smaller territories and if done wrong could make things worse. And that's besides the technical difficulty of implementation and the fact that even if he went through all that trouble I'm not sure much would be gained from it when there are many other things most people would rather see added to the game. The simple fact is that the more people you have in a game the more likely you're going to run into color problems. Actually I should say 25 colors if you account for neutral.

One thing I would think might be a simpler solution is a simple mechanism client side to recolor an opponent. Possibly even a default inhibition of certain colors until they're necessary. This might create confusion though in chat if you're not clearly aware of when you've activated it. Some games even have a button to recolor by team and use specific easy to distinguish colors for the task as opposed to some of the harder to distinguish ones.

But again it's a priority thing as he's working on the game alone and probably has better things to do with his time. I'm sure if someone offered him something concrete that he could implement with minimal work he'd have a look at it and add it if he thought it a good fit. That is how the current colors got added.

Keep in mind hatching would slow down display (probably not a ton). It would also be an issue on small territories (where the army amount takes up most of it), like say Hawaii on Medium Earth. What if it is not large enough to see the pattern? much easier to see a fill on small ones. This would be an even bigger issue on larger maps (with smaller territories all over)

Well, In most maps, cross hatching denotes territory shared within two nations, language groups, religious groups, etc. This could cause confusion for a new player, who would think that blue-striped-red territory is a territory shared between two players (blue and red).

Just and idea. But, on smaller territories the stripes could be smaller too.
