There are always the two types of gamers in this,The use all the time they are given and maybe go past the time limit if they see suit. The other type of gamer like me just take our turn fast and are annoyed when our opponent doesnt do the same. The fast strategy most call the noob way is not that at all. Fyi some new players use it because it brings undesereved wins. I boot fast to win sometimes just because Im not in a good place. Another thing can you make players have ranks that only can be raised if they win a non scenerio match. That idea came from the other game I play called Afterwind. For those who dont know what that game is. Its like this game game but puts you more into the position of using an airforce.groundforce and sea force. I recommend that game top those who are good at this game because it is much much harder. Back to the ranks you dont need to receive anything special for increasing your rank but a great thing to show those how good you are. Maybe you could add on a beginner multiplayer mode where new players can face off against other new players. After you get to a certain rank you cant go to the beginner mode. I like the idea of trying single player mode before going into the multiplayer but after you find out how easy the als are you will get blown away by the intelligence of other players you play against. Back to the two different types of players I ask for a seperate mode for players like that because if you put that on requirements you could end up with someone deciding to go super slow. I love Warlight and also thank for the first online game without advertisements because that portrays you as a game creator that doesnt want profit. There are multi day games that only new players can join. I think it's only one type of game but it does give new players the basic idea of how to play warlight without the totally discouraging losses.

New players could also make their own games with prerequisites that only allow people with a low number of total games played join. The guess main issue with that is many new players don't know about prereqs.

tl;dr

if you want to play with beginners just make open seat prerequisites. As for booting the only times i'm really against it are when the player only goes overtime once or twice or says "brb" or "don't boot", and in team games, except if its obvious the player isn't coming back in which case you should vote to end (except if the game was decided already)

regarding fast and slow players, this is why we can set different boot times
just check the map/settings, know how fast you re playing and see if you can take your turn every turn within that time,and check whether it s not too much time that leaves you waiting for the other players a lot
