(1) JSA calls it lack of focus. Sze calls it playing casually. I call it throwing armies around. It is relaxing. It passes the time or keeps me awake. Maybe it helps gather information (about a new map or template). Playing vanilla is also good strategy: there is a reason why NFL teams don't put their entire playbook on film in the preseason.

We come to WL to play games for different reasons. If I am throwing armies around, I don't want to hear people boast or talk shit in public chat in games that don't really matter. Just because you attach great importance to a particular game doesn't mean everybody else does. Just relax and have fun.

(2) Playing RT without an autoboot. I play RT to relax. Waiting over 8 minutes for someone to make picks or take turns is a waste of time. I'd rather play autodistribution or just vote to end on an autoboot. Don't play RT if you want to sit and study the board as if it is an exam.

(3) Assumptions. Are you in my room to see what I am doing? Have you been following me around all day/week/month to see what I have done? No? Then don't make assumptions about me.

(4) Idiotic teammates. Again, I come to WL to relax. As a teacher, I deal with stupid questions, actions, responses, or behavior all day. I get paid to be patient. But when I am not working, I don't have much patience for stupid remarks by random teammates or opponents. The other day a teammate's first words during picking, "Let's make picks all over the board." What does that even mean, when we only have three picks each? Two minutes later: "Are you there?" Yeah. I am using the app (see 10). I don't have time to deal with nonsensical English sentences that are neither questions nor demands. I made my picks before you. If you have the time to write nonsensical English, you must be on a computer. Use it. Look at my picks and coordinate. HHH can do just fine with a PC and without talking. You can too.

(5) Team games (especially 3v3s) with 0% straight round. It is anal retentive. You think it is highly strategic? Well, why not add cycling orders too? That eliminates luck too. Oh, that is too anal retentive? Why not make it no fog? No accidental advantages there too. Oh, that isn't fun? Where do you draw the line?

(6) Players asking for a surrender before it is due. I tend to surrender the moment I think the game is over. And that is often well before my teammates even know/think it is over. But I don't regret surrendering in any team game. So don't ask me for a surrender. It will happen in good time. But if you ask it will most definitely happen later.

(7) All players have to accept a surrender. Why? So I can get booted? So you get greater pleasure in winning? So it takes longer to end a game? So I have to hang around making moves just so everybody accepts the surrender? Every extra click after a game is over is a waste of time.

(8) Not having AIs for booted players. Players can come back. We all get booted by accident. Bad internet connection. Suddenly busy. You spilled something. The app lags. You have to talk with a friend or family member. Good games should not end on boots without giving the booted player a chance to come back.

(9) Gnuffone joining a casual RT game with multiple accounts without asking to see if his opponents mind. Make an impossible single-player game against AIs if you want a challenge while playing alone. I don't play RT to play multiple Gnuffones. How is a 1v2 or 1v3 fun? We play a team game? You play a 1v1? I play to relax and throw armies around? You play for glory, bragging rights, and to prove something? And then if you win I have to read your idiotic private messages about how great you are, because I didn't lose to just one New-phony, I lost to 2-3 (and maybe had another one on my team looking at my orders!)? Fuck that. BL for the alts.

(10) Playing on the app against top players who have a laptop or computer, and then hearing them talk shit if they win. The app has limited vision and inferior functionality. My expectations are less when using the app: I simply cannot overcome the lack of vision or functionality when playing RT. I am only about 95% as good as a player when using the app. I don't mind the drop off or losing. Without the app I wouldn't still be playing. But reading the shit people talk as if there is an equal playing field is annoying. Go use the app yourself and see how great you are. And when you lose more frequently, will you still be talking shit?

In 4000 games using a computer I picked a bonus with a wasteland by accident maybe two times; in about 1000 games with the app I have done it about six times already. When using a computer I never watch a turn and instead skip to the end result and immediately look at the history (I gather more information and do so more quickly this way); with the app I almost always watch the turn play out, try to remember what I see, and rarely look at history (too bothersome). On a computer I usually look at my teammates' picks and orders and coordinate with them; on the app I almost never do (can't do it quickly enough to effectively comment and coordinate) and expect my teammate to coordinate with what I pick and play (but without stating it because typing -- actually, it is tapping or chicken pecking -- this in every game is annoying). WL maps were made for being viewed on a computer. When other mapmakers ask me to look at their maps, I often ask them to consider its playability from the app: Imperium Romanum is the best top map for app play; Europe is too big; Poland lags and crashes; Medium Earth is acceptable; lately, I like Ancient Greece (but I can't see the lines connecting islands without zooming in really close).

Bossy inexperienced players in team games. I will always defer to players who are more skilled/experienced than me in team games. When a player doubles down on their poor strategy because they don't want to be a "puppet" is just being obtuse and not playing with teamwork in mind.

When people join games, and then just surrender as soon as it starts.

When people join games, and then complain about the settings because they were stupid and didn't read them.

I really hate #6 on your list too. If you tell me GG before I surrender, I will stall. But I also hate when people play to the last army as well. Know when you are dead. If you don't know, play a few turns to make sure, but not EVERY turn.

#7 I actually like. If you had an option where a teammate took over, then I would be fine without acceptance. But as is, I want to accept surrender or get hosed by a noob who has no clue whether it is over. Either way, the other team should not have to accept, that is completely pointless. Why should your opponent have control over when you quit?

Major pet peeve of mine is people who don't clean up their invite list and invite hundreds of inactive players to tournaments so that nobody else can forward invites.

(2) the British equivalent is just as ugly to my ears: I did consider finding a neutral term, but thought, "Fuck it, the Brits have already Americanized their English so much it could be considered a dialect of American English. Let's stick with the dominant language."

How do I clean it up? I'd love to do so!

Regarding Peeve #7 - I've been using accept surrender because lately I have a rash of people who surrender on turn 1. I refuse to accept their surrender so that they are either forced to play or get booted. At least with the latter I can eventually filter them out with a maximum boot prerequisite.

you should write something like 3-4 (if you don't have a lot of friends, if you do then write 2 or even 1)

Yeah, looking at the history while using the app is very cumbersome.

I don't think there's even a way to see your teammates picks on the app. Is that possible?

You can. Once you're in history, go to the menu and view territory picks. You can select your teammate there.

It is slammy. When you are on distribution mode go for ->view players -> view teammates orders. If you aren't longer in distribution mode: view history -> go to turn 0 -> view terrority picks -> chose your teammate.

Agree!! When people do this to me, I win the game to have my revenge.
