@Lolowut. Of corse, Maynard was given, but I felt that he head to be mentioned. :)

@[M.C.] ARC-77. Herbie ( listed in the few bands/composers I mentioned) was a great musician and write, and Chameleon was also good, although the version by Maynard Ferguson came close to it as well.

@NoobSchool(AHoL). Many people (including myself) do not wish to pursue music because (at least I feel) that hey are not sensational enough to take on music as a career. Teaching music by far, is easier than trying to make a living as a musician. I still go to Jazz events, and have participated in a few, but I only have played with my trombone. Remember back when I was young, the streets oaf San Fransisco were packed with Jazz nightclubs and such, and I have many memories of that period of my life. There aren't any Jazz clubs where. Live now, at least not that I know of...

Right now, attempting to get a teaching job in music is near impossible with the way budget cuts are with the fine arts programs. Schools are constantly getting rid of their music programs, and the teachers with them. I have 7 other music education majors going through my tiny school with me right now, and in the last two years there were two postings for music teachers in my entire city which were not per-determined (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.)

Now I'm not saying this is how it is everywhere, but all of music is a competitive field, and I know many more performers than I do teachers. I also know many more quality performers than I do quality teachers. I'm also not saying that these people don't exist, merely telling my own experiences. We only have a few jazz clubs around town here, but all of them bring a new group 7 days a week, as the college from around here just pump out performers.

I wish that people realized the intellectual impact music has on students from a young age. Many studies have shown hard facts connecting those students in music classes (performing ones such as band, orchestra, and chorus) to higher grades on tests such as the ACT and the SAT. One for example shows that orchestra students at a high school level, on average, score 3 points higher on the act. Thought three points doesn't sound like a lot, this could be the difference between a large number of scholarships and scholastic opportunities overall.

Rant aside (been a very long day), Herbie was a boss, and I love playing and listening to his stuff. I've been listening to a lot of Dexter Gordon recently because I'm playing set for a little combo for a saxophonists recital here soon.

If anyone has videos on youtube they use to listen to their jazz, please post them up. I love being introduced to new literature, and the best way to do it is dive right in!

Thanks :)

@NoobSchool(AHoL).
The thing that these people don't know about the Fine Arts program is that people learn more about everyday skills than just music art, etc. when I was in high school, the band director there was great, and he taught me a lot of other important things that I did'nt know yet. I would have come a lot differently in my personality if it weren't for Music, whether it was good moments or some random piece of information which I felt was important in a sense.

The people that are cutting these funds deem the Fine Arts as 'unhelpful' and most likely have no gone through the music program (or any program such as pottery) actually gives more than it takes. of course, it may seem a bit obvious, but Ii feel that Music has actually taught me more that World History or any subject like that (partly because of dreadful teaching.)

It's true that there are fewer and fewer teacher right now. My high school teacher is still teaching at Roosevelt, for the past 19 or so years. It would be great to see some more teachers, and performers are just as needed, but there seems to be too many that I can't keep track of.

Anyways, go onto YouTube and Search up Roosevelt Jazz Band, I think you will get a few good results :) preferably the Reno ones, they have the best quality.

Of course my all-time-favorite wold be La Vie En Rose, (A song that I introduced to you if you will remember cousin!- I am glad to see it is on your favorites list). I recently heard a excellent version of it. But seeing as I am French, I would say I am a little biased toward the types of music I like.

By the way, Awesome Guy, will you be free for the weekend to see your "estranged cousin's" family (as well as yours)? There is a train heading to Lille at around 16:15 (4:15 in "your" Time) and it would be good if you joined. I am waiting to hear from you hopefully soon.

Hi, I'm back to the forums, and I would like to revive this thread again...I am not familiar with international musicians outside of American composers, for I grew up there.

So any suggestions?
