I think the answer is pretty obviously yes (with an age cutoff around ~25). That is not to say that an older player is guaranteed to be the more skilled... merely that they are more likely to be.

Experience trumps age every time.

that is to say, once you get to a certain point (about age 14 though can depend on persons maturity), the age difference doesn't really matter. There are 14 year olds who could beat me consistently, then there are 40 year olds that I could probably beat consistently. Having the right frame of mind, experience and consistency are more important. I find my winning ratio is increasing huge amounts by just playing more games. I am 19 btw

Kusanagi, it's important not to focus on any one person in this. Age isn't meaningless simply because a 12yo can beat you consistently just as you can beat a 50yo consistently. The point is to look at the average for each age.

I don't know about you but I'd expect the average 19yo to beat the average 14yo and lose to the average 24yo, especially if experience is comparable.

After a certain point, age means nothing. That point isn't 25 or 30, its about 13-14. From that point on, the difference in ability is generally either due to differences in genetics or experience and persistence. If anything, younger people pick up certain things quicker, this is due to being in a point of life where one needs to learn skills for survival.

So why would an average 50 year old beat an average 15 year old or 19 year old even if they have played the same amount of games?

As I said earlier, it is completely to do with experience and persistence, not with older people being particularly smarter. So the two players have played the same amount of warlight, have they played the same amount of chess? same amount of risk? Are they willing to play thousands of games to get into the upper echelons of Warlight?

Heck i won about 10 of my first 50 games, the ones I won mostly by luck. My opponents had just more experience to draw from, it wasn't that they were actually any smarter or using strategies that were beyond my comprehension.

i dont say this as an authority. I can only fall back on experience of playing several strategy online games and working with 1000s of people. The age only matters when people make a deal of it, most people don't even know their opponents age and probably couldn't guess it from their gameplay.

I think we would all expect the average 19 year old to beat the average 14 year old, but i don't know if this is the actuality of it. Many times the younger people surprise us. You wouldn't expect a 17 year old to create a business that that later makes him a billionaire, but that is the age that Bill Gates started Microsoft. I know that is an extreme case but it still helps prove my point.

im only 14 and i think age has no effect i mean fizzers no child but he gets beat in games by people who you can just tell are kids by there screen names when i see that i pray to god they arent one of those dungens and dragons kids who never leve the basement and there tn computers and tv screens

I dont realy think that age is a factor. The problem is that anyone can lie. Heyheuhei might actualy be 13 for all we know. I think that maybe age affects slightly over the outcome (25 year old would know more strategies then a 13 year old) but i doubt age automaticaly makes a good player.

This survey is biased in the fact that more dedicated players would tend to be better through experience, and also be more apt to read the forums.

I am curious to see the average age of players, anyway

Eagle this is only a sample am not saying it is the perfect solution and also it doesn't nessary prove your theory.The result so far are interesting and 1 person is claiming to be over 100 not sure if troll or genuine.
