Ok, so I know I am opening an INCREDIBLY huge can of worms here, but I can't help it cuz I'm curious as to what people think. I've been noticing an increasing amount of tension/bashing between the clans. Now while this has provided me with countless hours of amusement (particularly as I am not really mixed up in it :D) I'm wondering what the source of the animosity is. I'm wondering if it is more from:
A. Players that self-identify so much with their online persona that it and their clan affiliation is an integral part of who they are- and so any slight to them or their clan is taken as a personal affront to be dealt with aggressively.
B. Generally bigoted personalities that are not able to say what they think of others in the real world, but here in WL they can maintain anonymity and therefore use this as an outlet.
C. People that like to "mix the pot" just to get a reaction or cause contraversy and they get a kick out of watching the fallout. Just harmless in your face fun.
D. Some other motivator that I'm missing at first glance.

Now, having put this out there please understand that this is not any sort of indictment or judgement, nor is it directed at anyone in particular, and I certainly don't think I'm above it in any way. Rather it's an honest curiosity as to the underlying cause of the animosity. Thoughts?

A. I can't speak for others, but I do personally identify with my clan, in this game and in the other games it's present in. I created the clan myself and manage it with little help, so I have a pretty big stock in it which includes its reputation. Therefor I do consider any negativity against my clan to be a direct personal attack on myself. I do, however, try to deal with such problems rationally and without aggressiveness, as I feel that puts me in the same category as the offending party.

B. I've not really seen this between clans. I've actually seen this AGAINST clans by those who dislike the concept in general.

C. This is rampant everywhere on the internet as well as in real life, so there's no way to escape it.

D. Not naming names or accusing anybody, but at least some of the animosity comes from past games where one clan or clan member has allegedly done wrong to a member or team of another clan. We've run into this a couple times, and it's been dealt with mostly by refusing to play games with those clans, rather than personal attacks of making it a public issue, because after all it's just a game, and it's not worth getting worked up about when you can just ignore the person.

Frankly, I think {RSP}Nike is responsible for stirring up a lot of hate, especially in the clan rankings thread.
