Buddy, I hope you realize that your drunken posts are making America look worse than that asshole Mitt Romney. Chill out. Do you not have anyone to celebrate these things with, other than the uncaring Warlight forums?

These right-wing batshit crazy religious conservatives do indeed like telling everyone how batshit crazy they are. Let's stay on topic! Last I saw, China was still leading the medal count. Not much time to get back into it, really, I think China will take the medals race...

The United States now leads by 4 medals overall, China has 2 more gold medals...It depends on what you're going for.

I think both are important, but if you look at rankings, they give the lead to whomever has the most golds. For example, if two countries have the same medal count, the one with the most golds will win.

Just hoping that track and field and basketball will be enough to give us the edge, but it is a very very close race.

i think the points system should be 3 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze

it would be a lot fairer, and you wouldnt see countries with over 20 medals down the leaderboards because they dont have any golds

Because trampolin is awesome. As is archery. And taekwondo. And every other fringe sport that get's attention via the olympics.
Softball was olympic for a time AFAIK. Beats me why they dropped it.
Hurling would be a fun addition.
Or backgammon. ;)

I read golf is supposed to be in the Olympics in 2020. That should be interesting. Spain and Japan (both in the host country running) have golf history, but what about Turkey (the other nation in the host country running)?

Softball and Baseball were taken out in 2005 as the IOC wanted to cap the number of athletes. All sports were put to the vote and as these sports are played the least amongnst Olympic countries there were votes out by the memebr nations

It's true that both sports are pretty isolated as to where good teams are. You have strong teams in North America/Caribbean and Japan/Korea areas but that is about it.

Then again one purpose of the Olympics is to provide other opportunities for growth of sports in countries (the reason for provisional entries where they wouldn't otherwise qualify). Baseball is the type of sport that anybody can play, regardless of income. You don't need expensive equipment/facilities to pick it up as a kid. So it can easily develop in other nations.
