A thread so we talk about the olympics, the sports and the results.

We Brazilians are pretty happy because its 1st day and we are having one of the best days in olympic history with 1 gold 1 silver and 1 bronze so far. And its the best beggining for sure.

Italy already have a gold and silver from fencing, with a final to happen soon.


And the big question, Eua or China, who will be 1st in the final stands?

haha, I was thinking of making this thread myself. I guess i got beaten to it. :P

My hopes on the medal count:
USA - 1st
GB - 2nd
JPN - 3rd
CHN - 4th
I will admit I am a bit bias in this. :)

I will always root for USA first, but I hope China will win every silver medal!

Woohoo, NL got silver on swimming! Now we're waiting for Anky van Grunsven to take gold for the fifth time on dressage, and then we'll have two medals!

[P]SGV_STH you think team GB will come 2nd in the medal count, well I am English and I will tell you these olympics are going to be a complete and utter faliure for us as we have wasted billions on it and 1 day down no medals for us and to be completely honest I was sick of the olympics before they started as the media were really in your face about it the only two things on the news were the olympics and syria

Well dunga, your team is probably my team's main threat in the olympics volleyball tournament. We got a serious beating every time from you in a major tournament last 8 or so years, but this year it really feels like we're ready to claim your spot, so be ready... And don't try to run into us in the quarterfinals ;)

Although our best players are back in the men team. And our coach is a genius.

I dont know how is the comparison to the last olympics at this point, but China is having a good start.

Guess I am in the minority but I root against China. Until their human rights can catch up to the 21st century I just can't root for them.

I personally root for Sweeden and Norway after US, since that is where my great-great grandparents were from. I sort of root for UK/GB also since they are the host (good for the fans).

Sadly, it's the Summer's Games so there won't be no women's curling...

You mean until their human rights reach US "standards"?

If you only cheer for countries that respect human rights, you should cheer for scandinavian countries only.

The US does have good human rights, at least compared to China. Most of the reason why US doesn't rank as high as Scandanavian countries is because the republican party is filled with racists/sexists/etc and filibuster any policies that would advance human rights. That and Guantanamo, which needs to close. And I root for them #1 because I am American. I would expect people in China to root for their team as well.

Come on. Gold medal for Canada...any day now.

OW and Moros, of course we can be happy with that silver medal, but it should have been gold if you look to the skills of the swimmers.

China will get probably the most (as they have more so far). they dominate table tennis as they always do, and USA will have to settle 2nd, if not 3rd.

I watched table tennis today and laughed very hard, because there was a woman in a Dutch uniform playing for the Dutch team, but she was obviously Chinese.
