Ok, let me amend the previous opening topic. U.S. is taken out of the discussion and Nukes are out as well. No alliances with other countries, just one country versus another. Who are the next best 5 armies of the world?

It was laughable that someone actually said the Chinese are better than US by the way.

Why is it laughable?

Because they chinese are not even close to the U.S.. sure, they have more soldiers, but there weapons aren`t as good and powerfull as the weapons of the U.S.

As much as i hate to admit this but the chinese are 20 yrs behind the us and they don't have as much navy or air force if the two country bordered maybe.

And their technology isn't that outdated. Although it doesn't compare to U.S.A, (Yet again, who does?) Its still pretty good. I think its main weakness is its navy, but most of the world navies have neen declining since WW2.

I think a lot about the China vs America issue, and I have some interesting thoughts.

For starters, I highly doubt either country could invade the other. The Pacific Ocean is vast, and the US has a pretty good number of Pacific bases. This, combined with the high effectiveness and superiority of the US Navy (especially when considering naval aviation and submarines), would ensure that any China invasion fleet would be destroyed before if got close to American shores.

In addition, you have to consider the enormous potential for a highly effective citizen resistance in both countries. The US civilian resistance would be quite strong due to the number of combat veterans and personal firearms. The Chinese civilian resistance would be quite strong, because high numbers of high-school graduates in China receive rudimentary military training, and I have to assume that the government has hidden stockpiles of basic light infantry weapons (light mortars, assault rifles, RPGs, and light machine guns).

But to answer the original question, a website I have found (and I do realize that random websites are always a dubious source), www.globalfirepower.com has it listed as:

Don`t forget that South-Korea and Japan would support the U.S., wich means that the invasion of China would be easier for the U.S. than an invasion of the U.S. for China. North-Korea will join China however and possibly also Iran will use the war to attack Israel (wich means the Middle East is going to be destroyed by nukes)

There are 2 important point now.

1. Russia won`t join China (doesn`t matter what you say, it just won`t happen)
2. These countries (U.S. and China) won`t start a war in this conditions.
Why?, well because if China starts a war, Europe and the U.S. will stop using their
factories and most of China`s income will disappear. The U.S is not going to start
war against China. Why would they? They are the most powerfull nation right now and
their products are made in China for low prices and they are making a lot of money
out of China (by trades, but probably also different things)

Yeah, I mean I don't really consider this a real possiblility. As you have said, both countries are making crazy money, why would the leaders screw that up?

Just a scenario, we all would hope neither country would go to war with each other. Just talking what if's. And who would win.

Numbers are important, as is technology. But, criticize as much as you want, but the US almost constantly has some forces deployed in combat or near-combat conditions, and has done for a long time. Simply put, in my mind the battle-hardened US military would be much more effective than the numerous but relatively green Chinese military.

Texas, you made a great point about the civilian aspect, one I strongly agree with. Should an invasion occur and the military be overrun (unlikely as that would be) then the citizenry of both nations would react violently. Given the size and geography of both nations, each would be impossible to control or rule over. The level of partisan activity would be extremely high and there would simply be too much ground to cover for a military police force.

Thankfully I don't ever see this coming to happen.
