Iḿ really stuck on this one in single player mode.... need a bit more detailed advice on how to approach this ...

I can't get it either. Tried many times with many different strategies, all ending in failure. Quite annoying!

I finally got it by getting to start with both my allies on the outer edge. Be next to eachother, and make sure you are not in the middle. Make your first normal conquests, and then blockade the side to which you have an enemy. Then work towards the center, working together with your ally AI next to you. Provide help if your AI's need it.
