Well, obviously, the world medium map comes to mind. Strategic 1v1 template is probably the most used template in the game. Also, the British Isles map is a personal favourite of mine.

Solely depends on your needs. For example if you want a quick game try going with small earth, imp. rom. or small USA. Those are great maps for the quicky in between.

If you want a real challenge where you can flank and "strategize" try the medium earth.

If you have too much time on your hands and you are really really bored go with africa, asia, poland or even the big USA.

The best maps for 1v1 would probably be Medium Earth, Easy Asia & Oceania, China: Warring States(that's a complicated one though), Europe(perhaps), Imperium Romanum.

Almost as important as the map is the settings. Use the strategic 1v1 template as a basis and make adjustments to it based on the map e.g. for Europe you might increase the starting spots to 4 instead of three. Try some maps out and see what you think yourself :)

And good job guys on some of those very helpful and hilarious comments above me.
