My advice is to make as many alliances as you can and break them without warning when the time is right. If they're getting too big knife in the back. If your getting too big knife in the back before they realize it. Timing is everything. It also helps to remember who you've screwed in the past. Some people get very emotional about this stuff and that's part of the fun. I also recommend stacking behind the line with your ally just in case. It's saved my ass a few times but it's also the preferred method for backstabbing because they won't have the resources to stop you unless they've been stacking too.
