Yup, the pair in Russia/Turkey has the worst start.

who would you say has the best start?

The Scandinavian player. Lots of armies, easy to defend and room for expansion. He also has a relatively high distance from the enemy, compared to the others.

I disagree Moros.. since this is a FFA, Spain clearly has the worst start.. the only one on the map with -no- expansion options.. is clearly required to attack italy or live in their shadow in truce..

Italy has a good spot, good early expansion, only problem is the slightly superior starting armies of spain will almost be guaranteed in your hindquarter.. Russia/Turkey both have expansion, even though Turkey's is poor, Turkey has lower initial income than russia, leaving even less reason to start an initial war, while Russia will have decent expansion.. Britain will obviously expand into Iceland or down into Netherlands early, and Scand is a clear danger with the 2-1 border.. w/o truce a relatively early war would be fought over Western Norway....

Disregarding truces and each players relative personality, I actually think Russia has the best Initial spot, and Spain the worst.
