Hello. I was thinking about ideas for a map, particularly one you could play a diplomacy on, and I realized there were no WWII maps. A few months ago, I was making a world war 1 diplomacy map, but I lost interested and postponed my work on that, and recently I found out someone else is making a bigger and better version (though not "diplomacy version") so I decided I should just trash that idea.
Before I begin making the map, I would first like to know if anyone else is currently making this sort of map, and I would appreciate any suggestions, because I have received some complaints about my old maps. Thank You.

Finally somebody has taken on the idea of making a WWII diplomacy map. I would personally appreciate the taking into account of neutral countries during the time. Also, (depending how far you into the war you wish to have the map represent)America and Japan shouldn't have massive incomes.

Hopefully this is of some help.

I don't see why everyone believes the Pacific theater is less important than the European theater. They are both very important and America/ Japan should have similar incomes to the other countries.

As long as you don't forget how important Africa is, it should be good :p

If you are concerned about overall balance then yes America and Japan should have an income similar to the others. However if you are wanting to be historically correct then it is best look up the economic conditions of the separate nations. America, for example, was weak during the beginning periods of the war and had to build up. Japan was better off at the start but actually grew later on. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan was free to take a lot of Pacific Islands which had needed war materials such as rubber.

I agree with Lawlz, Africa should be important.

Mine and Yours(CMU) seem very similar. Did you use axis and allies as your template?

Well, considering I was going to make one a bit bigger, maybe 500-1000 territories, I am going to make one too, hope you don't mind.

But I have a good question: What year should the scenario be set up for? The Invasion of Poland in 1939? After Dunkirk in 1940? After The Attack on Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, and Dutch East Indies in 1941? Or before the whole war even starts?
I was thinking I would do it probably in late 1941 or early 1942, when the Axis reached their climax, so the game can be more balanced.

I agree. I think that time frame would make for good game play.

1939 or 1942 is normally the set date of many scenior's. Perhaps 1942 if you want to make it more unique. You don't want a normal world.

I think 1939 is good, however 1942 is also a good time, but then there are less slots in the game.

Make sure Europe, North Africa and the Pacific Islands are slightly more detailed than on a world map. Maybe have an inset for Europe instead of cramming them onto that small continent?

Be sure to make Japan worth about 70-80% of the US's value. Even though Japan wasn't an 'industrial' powerhouse, they surely knew how to manipulate enemy weaknesses and use their positions to their advantage.

Starting dates:
Since it's a diplomacy game, 1936 would make the most sense. 1939 is still a good date as well. But 1942? Come on, half of the decisive battles are already gone.

I think 1936, 39 and 42 are all good dates to start. 36 is good because it's before the war, therefore different outcomes to the start of the war are possible.

39 is still a good date. The outbreak of the war would be best. This can be good if you want historical routes, but not to fixed. Germany would have union with Austria and have Czech. But the path Germany can take still has many options.

42 is more historic I say. If you wish to make a good fixed scenior. This is your date. Even though major battles have already been. The world map is unique from modern or 1930's. Because Germany has most of Europe by now and Japan has it's Empire.

I don't particularly mind what you choose because probably all scenior's would work on it anyway.

The problem with 1936 and 39 is that Germany and Japan are much weaker at this time leading to a biased scenario.
