SUPER CUP INFORMATION!: 5/30/2012 02:37:26

So I'm willing to try something new right now, and it's called the Super Cup.

It's a tournament, but not like any other tournament. It's a SUPER tournament.

Here's how it works:

1. You join the Sign Up tournament (which has some criteria, listed below), which will secure your spot for the tournament. You'll see it listed among the other tournaments, and it will hold 320 players. The tournament itself is just for signing up, therefore it's a practice one (feel free to play it if you want, though; it uses the template for the tournament).

2. FIRST ROUND: Once the spots are filled, the fun begins. I will randomise every one into 32 groups of 10, where you will play round robin matches with the tournament settings. You will have 5 games at a time and you will try to win as many as you can:

- The top TWO players (ranked 1st and 2nd) at the end of each round robin tournament will obtain a BYE, which allows you to advance straight to the Round of 128.

- The next FOUR players (ranked 3rd to 6th) will receive a pass to the second round, detailed in a second.

- The bottom FOUR players (ranked 7th to 10th) will be knocked out of the tournament.

3. SECOND ROUND: This will be a double-elimination round against the others with ranks similar to yours. You will have to win TWO games in order to remain in the tournament, and you can only lose once. The top two in the final match-up will advance to the Round of 128.

4. ROUND OF 128: This is a single-elimination round to determine the final winners.

I'm not only keeping a spreadsheet online where you can find your friend's tournament, but you will all be ranked out of the 320 players. So even if you lose, you'll be able to view your rank at the end of your run!

I'm all ears for the actual template to use for the tournament. If this is fun enough, I could do it again once it's over and keep track of the winners.

Next post details the links and stuff.

Rankings will be determined in priority of:

1. The round you ended the tournament in, i.e., Round of 128, then Second Round, then Round Robin.
2. The number of wins you've made in that round.
3. Whether you were booted or not.
4. Your WarLight average multi-day speed OR the length of time you've been playing WL.

Criteria:

1. MAXIMUM 7% boot percentage.
2. MINIMUM 5 days since sign up.
3. MINIMUM 10 games played.

All games will have a 1d1h direct and auto boot.

Actually, boot time could be 1d12h. Little bit more fair.

My boot rate is a bit higher then 7% due too me losing my internet a few motnhs ago when I was in 80ish games. Could I still participate? I assure you I'm very active now and I meet all other criteria.

5 games at a time and 1 day 12h boot? You won't get any quality players to compete in this.

Great Tournament Idea

But I m agree with some people, the boot rate is too high. The usual 2days boot is fineif you want to ignore the vacations. You have to choose between 1day or 1day half boot AND accept vacation time or 2days boot.

Otherwise, this tournament sounds really great !

The boot time can be changed if it's such a hassle, but I don't see how the extra 12 hours will make a difference. Most of the games I'm in rarely go past 36 hours without a turn being taken, and if they do the infringing players gets booted.

1d12h seems fair to me.

@Grzechooo: Me too, that's why it's not 12 hours.
@Ben the Beast: You were either already invited or you joined by now. Anyway, you should have been able to find it.

Are vacations going to be allowed? I'd like to join, but I'm going on a trip at the end of June, and I won't be on for a week at least.

I'm with some of the others. I work and some evenings I can't play so I need a boot of at least 2 days or I'm likely to be booted.

It says 12 hour boot in the tournament settings.... Is that final? Id like to see 1d12h, but at least 24h... Other than that, looks awesome!
