I posted a preview of the map earlier on the Korean Peninsula. It was supposed to be just a sneak peek and I was supposed to start a new thread when it was closer to being finished but Moros couldn't stop posting about the map so I suppose I'll make the thread now. :D

I'm just going to copy and paste what I wrote in the other thread.

I know there is a few maps of Japan already on WarLight, but two of them are historical maps and one is a small one with only about 50 territories. The map I'm making is Japan Big and when/if it's finished it would have over 500 territories. At the moment it has 113 territories and it's about 20% ready.

Because Okinawa is so far from the main islands I will have to include it in it's own little box somewhere at the bottom of the map. I've already hit the pixel limit vertically so I can't include it in the map any other way. I don't want to make the main islands any smaller because there already were some problems trying to fit double digits inside territories in the Nagasaki Prefecture.

Balancing the map is the hardest thing to figure out with this map. I want to make the map so that each prefecture is a bonus. As you can see from the link below there's a lot of small size prefectures in the south but as you go north the prefectures get bigger and bigger in size.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bc/Regions_and_Prefectures_of_Japan_2.svg/500px-Regions_and_Prefectures_of_Japan_2.svg.png

I try to fit in as many territories in the map as I can but when some prefectures could fit well over 20 territories in the north, I can only fit under 10 in the south. Hokkaido isn't a problem because it has subprefectures so I can easily slice it to smaller pieces. I don't want to make a map where the starting positions would already decide the game.

And to Moros' post about the bonus colors. I will change those later. They're not supposed to be the final colors as I just picked them fast.

I was making a japan map myself, so I have an solution for you.
Make it a map of the sengoku jidai area and instead of the modern prefectures use the old provinces. (Nobody will notice the differents in the district structure)
That way you dont have to implement Okinawa, nor Hokkaido. The former was an independent Kingdom under chineses suzerainity named Ryukyu and the latter was still controlled by the Ainu.

here is a province map of japan for reference:

Otherwise that would be a good idea but there already is a Sengoku map which also is relatively large. Also I want to have Okinawa and Hokkaido in the map.
