What Rikku said. Everybody is free to try to poach someone from my clan, I won't complain. If that doesn't work, then its attractivity is obviously bigger than the poacher's one. If it does work, the poached player must have had the feeling to be promoting to a better clan, an understandable decision.

If nobody took players from clans which lost their activity (for example due to mistaken ideas of decency), their remaining active players would've likely lost it aswell; I hope there is mutual agreement that we can't want this. If this applies to your clan, IRise, you need to improve your clan instead of trying to improve other people's decency.

Clan leaders need to make sure their clan reflects their values. If someone outgrows those values, i would want them to get a clan that reflects those values they want. To that, you cannot blame clan leaders for recruiting someone who is in a clan that doesn't seem to align with their values.

Sending blind invites is dumb though. Asking if someone's clan aligns with their values is probably more appropriate.

Like others said, if some players start to get good and draw attention, you need to get more good players for them to team with so they are happy where they are.

Chris has a good point

But what really sucks tho is that if you're not an established clan or an established highly respected player, it's a lot harder to build a clan to that level from the ground up. Rise isn't Master of the Dead, he's only been involved in the scene for a short period of time, but he's done a great job considering the position he's in.

Of course. The key is communication with your clan. Motd wasn't motd when he started either. As people in your clan improve, you need to make sure they know the clan will grow with them. If a player doesn't hear or feel that, they make look elsewhere

Like when I started WG with JSA, I wasn't very good at all (I'm still no motd, but I am a lot better than I was when WG started). We had 4 people in our clan, none of which were the best players in the game. as we grew as players, we recruited more people who were good, and continued to grow the clan. We eventually were good enough to win a clan league with some very good players. Some of those have since retired or gone inactive at times and we slipped back a bit. But your clan needs to be able to evolve with the players and sometimes go through some changes.

If you are not growing, you are dying.

This is all true, however I would wonder if recruiting good players has become harder these days due to scarcity of good players and competition between other stronger clans.

As you said before, clans need to have a certain values, or maybe a certain bond or something unique to keep the players from leaving. Leaders have to remain close to their members and ambitious, and once a leader begins to get lazy the growth reverses into a decline.

It's not easy stuff, and even most established and well respected clans have trouble with inactivity.

it is harder. We recruited marc, Summer, Tenshi who were all clanless at the time. They were elite players then/now. That was back when clans were not official in Warlight/Warzone (we had to changed our player name to reflect our clan tag). So a lot less people were actually in clans then.

Now, the pool of good players that are clanless is VERY small. Most just don't want to be in a clan, or are an alt. So for someone to find good players, it usually has to come from another clan. That is just the nature of the community. So it is hard to blame a good clan for poking around in other ones. Where else would they get players? I also understand the plight of a clan starting out and getting poached. But their best bet might be to merge with someone as they get better. Basically, they need to grow their community with good players and they may need to merge to stay alive.

Why do we insist on putting clans in this hierarchy?

I got to agree with ChrisCMU, a player joins a clan that reflects there value. Clans are really just communities. Each with its own culture. I would speculate most clans cultures really aren't that committed to being the most highly skilled clan, but instead just exist to form a community with some broad goal. For example some clans exist as developmental clans (think 101st), so by definition they are not trying to be the most highly skilled clan, their goal is to try and develop new players from being casual players to highly skilled players. Some clans exist to be a community of only the most highly skilled players, and aren't trying to develop their players at all (think Masters). Some clans are specialty clans, like CORP, that offer a different sort of community based on diplomacy games. But the point is there is a wide variety of missions. So if one player leaves one clan to join a clan that seems like it would better fit what they want out of Warzone, that a good thing. It makes both communities better, as each community will be better composed of individuals that fit their communities goals.

Hmmm, why do people think Coalition Of Roleplaying Friends was a diplo clan? Makes no sense to me either, very strange thing.

Well, there seem to be different concepts here about how to define a clan. I believe we can summarize the two ends of understandings about what defines a clan with the "BRO" classification:

- alexclusive sees clans as a BROthel where players are free to come and go as they please. It's a judgment free zone. People are free switching clans 5 times a year. Back in the days, 'X' introduced the term "clanslut" for describing JSAs clan hopping.

- M'Hunters defines itself as a BROtherhood. You can't just come and go as you please and we don't rat (nowadays called whistleblowing).

Now I'm not judging. Everybody is free to decide whether they'd rather be in a BROthel clan for some non-committal fun or in a BROtherhood clan.

Norman, what I wanted to say is that a clan that fits the wishes of its members won't be left anyways, not more... you know that I don't like clan hoppers.

Oh, and there seems to be a third stance regarding poaching, going something like this: "It's OK to poach from the lesser clans but not from equal elitist clans.". Sadly I couldn't find a word starting with "BRO" here :(
...

just can't come up with anything funny
...

let's just call it the "BROken elitist" understanding.

(Edit: Nah, to judgmental. I desperately scanned https://www.thefreedictionary.com/words-that-start-with-bro but just couldn't come up with anything, sorry).

So does this mean MH is a clan where I can get away with cheating? I've been looking for a clan where I can cheat without fear and have my back covered by a faithful band of brothers and ONE obviously isn't the place for that.
