With the long Thanksgiving weekend, I've had a few multi-day games where team members have been booted and replaced with neutral territory (or converted into an AI). This can be a SEVERE handicap in team games. In one game, it was our largest team member.
I would suggest that in a team game, a booted player's holdings should be distributed to the remaining team members. Similar to a series of GIFT cards. I'd suggest the following method:
- If the territory is next to another team member, gift it to that team member. Use income level to breaks ties. This would need to be done as a domino effect, until no booted member territories are adjacent to any team member.
- Gift remaining territories adjacent only to neutral territories based on income levels of remaining team members. But as chunks of adjacent territories, not individually.
The "income level" order could either be by highest or lowest. I think arguments could be made for either.
But simply losing all of a team member's armies and income is too much of a penalty on the remaining team members, for something beyond their control.
