I've noticed a number of people requesting a different map based on the Roman Empire, so I've put one together. It's a very different map, set just as the empire crumbled, c. 395 AD. Take a look here: http://warlight.net/SinglePlayer.aspx?PreviewMap=7816. Any commentary is useful.

Perhaps you should make the Balearic islands connect to Sardinia as a stepping stone kind of territory. Otherwise, the map, in my opinion, is perfect.

Okay, just to clarify some things: Hibernia and Caledonia were never part of the Roman empire. That's probably why they are negative territories, encouraging people to play as the Roman Empire and not as the "barbarian tribes." However, if he did include those barbarian territories, why not add other territories that were not under Roman rule, including Magna Germania, Mesopotamia, Armenia, and maybe even Crimea. Btw, I'm willing to test the map.

@ironheart He's (possibly) trying to make it historically accurate, since Illyricum was one of the more important prefectures of the Roman empire

Belgica seems a bit to far south... but that's just perspective really.

On the scottish/Irish question: With the negative bonus, there's no reason to conquer them. They have a negative bonus ánd no strategical value whatsoever. That's why you should make them either unplayeable (objects in stead of territory's) or remove the negative bonus (zero bonus would be fine). You'd be really dissadvantaged if you startingterritory is there.

Also, why Britain when you named the rest in latin? Brittanica would be better, not?

he should remove britain and ireland because in random picks or ai could pick them and ruin games for teams if u get it in random full distribution

I'll agree that Ireland/Scotland need to be removed if they are just going to be -5 bonuses. Everything else that's not part of the actual Roman Empire is gone already, so having them there doesn't make sense for the theme, and is terrible for actual gameplay.

As another concern, I think that Illysium is too powerful. If you intend people to actually complete the four 20 bonus areas, you should find a way to make them more even. Illysium gives 29 armies for 12 territories. That's downright insane as far as game balance goes. The ratio of territories to power is too high, but also 12 territories is really easy to take, meaning that anyone starting around there would have to be countered immediately or always win.

If you are going for historical accuracy about the importance of that area, you could break the territories into small parts, making more total territories without expanding the 20 bonus outside of the small georgraphical area. Considering the fact that it's only two bonuses that make up the meta-bonus, even dropping the 20 to 10 would still make it extremely powerful.

A few responses to specific issues:

-A second connection for the Baleares is a good idea, but I don't think I'll connect it to Sardinia. I tried to keep long sea connections to a minimum because I think it makes for a more interesting map.

-Illyricum probably is way too big. It got defaulted to the same superbonus as all the other prefectures, because historically they were all administratively "equal", but I had intended to reduce it when I had some sense of game play on the map. I might bump it down to 10 before starting a test game.

-I'm fixing the Armenia to Helenopontus connection

-I'm also standardizing the names to Latin--no more Britain, Spain, Italy, or Greece

-Finally, the mysterious Ireland/Scotland bonuses. Those are an artifact of an earlier version of the map that had all of the surrounding tribal as small negative bonuses. The original idea was to create some sort of risk/reward system where all of the small negative bonuses added up to a massive superbonus, but I abandoned that early on. I may still make a similar map for a "Barbarian Invasion" theme, but I scrapped them on this. I'll just reset those bonuses to zero on this map, and possibly turn them into unplayable objects later.
