Just joined Season II ladder, and I am excited to have more ladder games to lose!

Side note: I feel a lot better about losing my first game to Lobstrosity, as he has apparently risen meteorically! We started at the same time, but he is already top 10. Myself, I see hovering around #50 until the end of time.

Ahh, thanks. There was a bug, but it should be fixed now.

Hey season 1 was fun and I think it's a great idea to have the shorter competitions because you have so much chance to vary them in ways you cannot on the ladder.

But given we already have 2 ladders using the earth map and have just finished season 1 on the earth map. My first reaction is a little disappointment that another ladder will be on this map as well. Given the length of the ladders it would be unfair to change maps. But over 15-20 games this problem is not there for a short season competition.

There is a far greater scope for varied games. You could have a multi-map ladder or use a different map for a new season. Giving the short seasons something really unique and interesting. Especially if your favourite map came up as the map for a new season. (Not everyone loves the earth map - though it is not a bad map by any stretch.) Part of warlights appeal to me is the variance in games and maps that are possible. I'd love to see this utilized when creating standalone short season competitions. I'm not convinced that adding an enhanced diplomacy card to the games makes them radically different or interesting compared to some of the other things you could do.

I don't want to come across as a hater as it really is a good game and I salute the work and the community. In essence I'd just like to ask that possibly for season III we could see warlights potential for different games utilized.

Some ideas for discussion (restated from above):

Multi-map ladders - pro's variation in every game - cons lack of fairness in the competition due to luck and map preference.

Using a different map - pro's - people who don't like or are bored of playing earth ladders may be more likely to join a season on a map they like. Cons - people may not care for the seleceted map and so not join.

Automatic distribution - pros again it's different - cons some people don't like it as picking is a skill and again luck is more prominent.

No (or low) luck games. - pros people who don't like luck are more likely to play and skill is a greater factor in victory / defeat. Cons - it is not the standard setting.

Etc . . .

Different maps will be used in future seasons for sure. You just have to be a little careful since learning a new map really well takes a lot of time.

I realize this isn't as big of a deal to the hard-core players who play tons of games, but there's also a lot of mid-core players on the ladders that don't have as much time to devote to learning a new map, and it's important the the ladders are approachable without doing a ton of research ahead of time.

I've also been thinking about adding a fourth tournament type that's a bit ladder-like and can support more players than the other tournament types. This might help fill the need for players who want more extreme settings but aren't satisfied with the current tournament options.

has there been a ladder without low luck that I am unaware of?

16% luck is pretty standard in any high-competitive setting, as it gives skill base in low numbers conflicts, while still leaving some slight variances for extreme amounts, so that a perfect pattern cannot be attained

automatic distribution would be faulty to be used with a rating system, since you would have to find a way to give each pick a rating based on it's power.. *much like how white has an advantage in chess*

I am fully in favor of changing maps per game, or a different map per season...
I don't think skill can be dictated by a single map.. an idiot savant can be good at one thing but not be skilled at the whole of the subject.. the adaptability would provide a more true showing of actual skill.. unfortunately, this would also provide a bonus to players with more time to play RT games to test out each map prior to actually completing, or even playing, each of their ladder games.

I am one of the mid-level players you refer to, and I was wondering if there might be some way to put it to a vote? I personally REALLY enjoy SE Asia, Africa, and Europe (in that order). I think the ladders are a great idea. Is it a lot of work to put them together?

I just logged on here for the 1st time in ages.

I quit 1v1 and 2v2 and finished my games for season 1 as i had been booted a few times as I simply didnt have the time to play towards the end.

Anyway I log on here again and I have been signed up for season 2 automatically and I have been booted from a few games. I quit the ladder fully this time and surrendered.

I dont think you should have it auto! I quit cos I was struggling to play often enough and got booted from about 5 games just before i quit and now I got even more boots, my boot rate looks even more terrible should I ever come back to warlight now :(

(I enjoy it just cant keep on top of games all the time )
